I went to the gun show at the Fairgrounds in Nashville today, primarily intending to walk around and look at toys, maybe buy a little ammo. Instead I found a rifle that came home with me. I'm wondering if someone can tell me more about it.

It's a Czech Mauser 98K vz.24. It's been rebarrelled in .308 / 7.62x51. It has an American eagle crest stamped above the bolt. Above the crest is "Model 98/85."

The guy who sold it to me told me that "some company" rebarrelled a bunch of vz.24's several years ago and that this was one of them. He couldn't tell me anything else. It appears to be in very nice condition. I'll post some pics in a bit.

Does anyone here have experience with these Mauser's?

Not too sure on the vz's. I know that some mausers were produced in .308. I have a 1916 spanish mauser that was originally in 7.62. I bet your's will shoot nice when ya get'er out to the range. It's nice to not have to worry about corrisive ammo out of a mauser :)

From the description, it sounds like a FedOrd Mauser twoblink had (has).
I believe FedOrd has less than a stellar reputation (to put it mildly), but twoblink seemed happy with his.

Thanks Kaylee. Hopefully this one will work nicely for me as well. Here's the pictures. Not the greatest but hopefully they will help with recognition by someone.
