many questions... I just got ahold of a RCBS pro 2000 deluxe, missing a die plate. I want to start loading .223 for my Oly AR (k16 1-9 16'' bbl) Ive never loaded before so i dont know the details. Id like to get started soon but every time im at Bass Pro, there is nobody around that knows anything about it. I was thinking about using RCBS X dies. I read the seater isnt so good, so diff brand? Do i need a specific die plate for specific sizes? Any other info or useful tips? Going with a 60gr bullet. Been shooting Brown Bear 62 which seem to be inaccurate but the weight works well with my scopes BDC. Any and all info is appreciated

Get online and either download owners manual or call RCBS and request manual. They are very responsive to our needs. Plus any advice from owners from this site.

Like said above, contact RCBS. They are extremely helpful and will do whatever they can to get you up and running.

Welcome to the forum and to reloading...

im sure RCBS is very helpful with their products but id also like to soak up some knowledge from the seasoned reloaders. RCBS wont give info on experience with certain dies and such from other companies that just work better

I use Lee dies because they are inexpensive and they do work well. I bought the Lee Deluxe .223 rifle 3 die set and added a Lee Factory Crimp Die and spent ~ $40 for it all. (you will probably want to crimp your AR ammo)

It will take a specific shell plate for each caliber ( some shellplates will load more then one cartridge). I know that the shell holder for 223 is a RCBS #10 but don't know if that number will translate to the Pro 2000.

As far as dies go, I like the Hornady New Diamentin Dies. They have a sliding guide to help guide the bullet in straight.

One of the first things you need to do before loading a single round is get a couple of reloading manuals. I have Lyman, RCBS, Hornady and a lot handouts that you can get from teh powder makers which you should be able to get at your reloading supply store. Here's the link you need to read:

Besides the press you will need a scale, case trimmer and deburr tool. Some sort of case lubing pad or spray. A case vibratory case cleaner is nice to have. Plus a set of calibers. A sturdy bench to mount your press on.

When you have miore questins, which you will, just ask. The best to do would be ask at the reloading store if there might be someone local that could give you a hand getting started.

I don't know anything about the RCBS X-dies, but the regular dies have worked very well for me for forty plus years, never had any problems at all. Redding, Lyman, Forster, Pacific and Hornady also have worked very well too. If I could only pick one brand, it would be Redding. RCBS or Forster would be my next choice followed by Lyman or Hornady.
