Some time ago when it was posted here that there was an attempt to lift the National Park gun ban I checked the lost of co-sponsers and saw that my Senator was not on it, so I kicked him out a letter basically telling him the flaws of the law and why I thought it should be repealed. Here is his (seemingly noncommital) response.

February 1, 2008

Mr. MASTEROFMALICE

1313 MOCKINGBIRD LN.

WHOSYODADDY, Virginia 12345

Dear Mr. MALICE:

Thank you for expressing to me your thoughts on gun laws and our National Parks. I always appreciate hearing the concerns of those I am elected to represent.

Throughout my service in the United States Senate, I have made the protection and conservation of Virginia's natural and historic resources a legislative priority. I am determined to preserve Virginia's open space by creating and expanding our national parks and national wildlife refuge system in Virginia. I have worked to complete the wildlife refuges at Mason Neck, Chincoteague, Eastern Shore and Back Bay. Furthermore I have helped with the establishment of new refuges on the James and Rappahannock rivers. I believe that keeping Virginia’s natural treasures beautiful and undisturbed for future generations is always a worthwhile cause.

Thankfully, enjoying our national parks is an easy and inexpensive experience that can be fun and memorable for the whole family. I understand your concern for safety and security within our Parks and I can assure you that the Park System’s rangers, police, and other employees are top-notch. Helpful, vigilant, knowledgeable, and accessible, Park Rangers and Park Police are a key reason our National Park System garners consistent acclaim.

As you noted, however, National Park Service regulations generally ban the use of handguns within park boundaries. Please be assured that I have noted your opposition to this regulation and will keep it in mind should any legislation come before Congress seeking to alter or revoke it.

Lastly, it may interest you to know that not all federal lands operate under the same regulations as our National Parks. National Forests, for example, differ from National Parks in that they usually follow state law to determine the legality of guns within their boundaries.

Again, thank you for contacting my office with your views. Should you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me again.

With kind regards, I am

Sincerely,

John W. Warner

United States Senator

Typical politicianspeak saying nothing. Just swinging in the wind. Probably a "mugwump" (mug on one side of the fence and the wump on the other.)

John Warner is the biggest RINO of them all. I have written to him many times. While I always get a response in letter form from him - he NEVER states his position on the issue at hand. He just blah blahs on for a whole page and says nothing. He is no friend for gun rights.

So he (Warner) is saying "I'll wait until somebody brings it up". That's pretty par for the course with him.

Hrmmm, a new plan to light a fire under Sen Warner.

you really didnt expect help from him on this matter did you ? he is just a RINO he really is not progun you know. i wrote him a letter about the same issue and got the same half hearted reply i cant wait till we replace him with someone more progun.

I remember writing vague letters like that during my brief stint on the hill. Ahh memories.

Smooth Move

You write a United States Senator about lifting a ban on carry in the National Parks and use a screen name? And your screen name is "MASTEROFMALICE"

I don't think our side can stand many more deep thinkers like you.

Personally I could care less how he meant it. I just would like to hear sensible rhetoric on the practicallity of including an electronic sight on a point and shoot mini-gun...................

Uh, dude. Seriously. Changing out your real name with your screen name when you post a reply from a public servant is standard practice. I've done the same.

No it isn't standard practice. Use a real name in a letter to a congressman or senator you are identified as a constituent. Use a screen name you are just another kook.

Wadcutter,
I believe what he meant was, that he used his real name in the letter to the Senator, then redacted to his screen name for posting here.

Malice, am I right?

^^^that's what I meant. No one uses their screen name in correspondence, sir.

You should have pointed out to the good senator that someone HAS "brought it up" as over 40 senators have signed a letter asking NPS to change the rule.

No. I wrote to him as 'MASTEROFMALICE"

I also, of course, live at 1313 Mockingbird Ln (which was the Munsters street address).

And let's not forget that I was writing from my hometown of WHOSYODADDY, Virginia (Who's your daddy?)

Wadcutter........I think your wads been cut a little too short.

If you really must know, I signed it using my title "Officer MYREALLASTNAME" to demonstrate that at least some LEOs are behind this.

As you noted, however, National Park Service regulations generally ban the use of handguns within park boundaries.

Actually the regs ban the possession of firearms not "the use of handguns". It is sad the the Senator and his staff can't understand the difference between carrying a gun and plinikng in the park.

Please be assured that I have noted your opposition to this regulation and will keep it in mind should any legislation come before Congress seeking to alter or revoke it.

Translation:
"I'll be thinking of you as we trample your rights."

No suprise from Mister Elizabeth Taylor..

John Warner proved he was both and liar AND a sack of sh*t when he went against the republicans of Virginia and their legally chosen candidate for US Senate Oliver North. Instead he and the lousy country-clubbers backed the "third party" run of that LOSER BUM Joe Canada - with the result that Chuck "Cuddles" Robb got another 6 years in office.

:fire:

Bastiche.
