Return of the Original Steyr AUG?!?!

Only because the feds wanted to ban the AUG, they pulled out not wanting that to happen, Heller made the news so AUG is going for it.

This started up long before the Heller ruling. After the Clinton ban expired everyone wanted to jump on the bandwagon.

MSAR is a US company that put it's own money into the building of an AUG clone, I'll be spending my money there or with TPD.

Steyr coming back now is purely a cash move, they have been doing business in the US this entire time, they just avoided the "assault weapon" when it was politically incorrect.

Yeah but you're not saving a whole lot of money, if at all, with a $2,200 price tag.

You can get an MSAR stg556 for around $1,600 but mags are around $35 each.

You can get an AXR for $2,200 but mags are $15 each. (lets say polymer Pmags)

I look at a rifle from a "package" point of view.

Example:

MSAR stg556 for $1,600
+
10 mags for $350
=
$1,950

TPD AXR for $2,200
+
10 mags for $150
=
$2,350

2,350 - 1,950 = $400 difference

So much for standardization.

My LE TPD AXR was 2K with the storm case, 4 mags, 1-4.5 optic, sling & cleaning kit. You are also getting a "in spec" AUG clone that uses many Steyr parts. You are also getting a forged CNC reciever and the use of AR mags. To me its worth the extra cash to have a better rifle.

Mags are the weak link, commonality would be a good thing, in fact I'd be very happy if every .308 used FAL mags and every .223 used AR mags.

That would be nice, but not all magazines play nice with all rifles.

A couple of .308 length AR designs were made with FAL magazine lowers. Bushmaster made one.

They really don't work that well.

I thought the importer for Steyr went under last year, (hence the large quantity of Steyrs at CDNN) and this is the result of a new import company?

According to the rumor mill, some parts of the gun will be made by Saber Defense.

No idea if that's got any truth to it.

If I remember correctly, the Steyr AUG was specifically banned in the Clinton AWB, along with the Galil and others.

So was the AR15. Domestic producers found a way around it, Steyr said "screw it". I'd just rather spend money with companies that take risks and invest rather than take the easy way out.

Can't speak to the Bushmaster made guns as I only ever saw one, but the RRA I got after they finally came out after they purchased the rights from Bushmaster, works wonderfully.
