Reusing primers

Has anyone ever looked at the resizing/decapping die? Just how is that primer going to hurt you (except for the filling of your shorts) if it does go off when you remove it. Like so many others on here I have decapped thousands of live primers without setting one off. I even tried to set one off by ramming the case into the die and no pop. And as for as reusing said primer...Hell yes...I'm cheap (must be the Scotch heritage)...

Hang in there Loomis and Farnorthdan...This site is easy to work, fun and educational too...

No problem with depriming cases here... hell, I used to have one go off every so often when seating a primer in the old Lee Loader (yes, the mallet and seating rod technique)... it'd make you jump, but no harm no foul. However, I would be careful with how I stored this batch of primers... putting them in a jar is not a good idea (drop it and BOOM)... I'd scavenge some of your old cardboard / plastic primer sleeves and store them in those until use.

Ihave decapped on a couple of occaisions. The first was when I put a primer in sideways... with a hand priming tool no less.

And more recently when I picked up the wrong tray of primed and prepped .260 brass and proceeded to happily neck size them...

was too busy thinking about something else... :banghead::banghead:
And oh yes I am resuing them. Cant see how depriming would damage them.

Farnorthdan, why did you feel the primers in the salvaged 45 ACP cases needed to be removed? Primed cases can be resized by simply removing the decapping pin.

I wanted to resize the cases, not sure what I did wrong but I couldn't get the batch (approx. 500 rounds) to chamber in any of my .45acp pistols: Kimber UCII, S&W model 1917 w/moon clips. So I figured I would just start over. This batch was one of the very first I did a couple of years ago.
