Thought i would do some slug tests with a used 12 guage pump smooth-bore i bought at Scheels All Sports.
Gun is chambered for 2 3/4 or 3 inch shells. Action is tight and lock up is solid. Came equipped with a scope mount that a Simmons scope was attached too. I replaced that scope with a Tru Glow red dot type scope that mounted to the existing rail [Weaver type]. It has 11 brightness settings for a dot that subtrahends to 5 moa. Click values are 1/4 at 100 yards. Also, it came equipped with rifle type sights. Other minor changes = Shell sleeve & sling i attached.
I have tested several brands of slugs, Brenneke, 2 3/4 inch 1 ounce slug, Federal, 2 3/4 inch "low recoil' 1 ounce LE, Remington 2 3/4 inch 7/8 ounce " Slugger" load & Copper Solid 3 inch 385 grain slug, Seller & Beloit 2 3/4 inch 1 ounce slug, Winchester 2 3/4 inch 1 once slug.
Tests, all of the above slugs shot good from this shotgun - except the Seller & Beloit. The 3 best were, Remington 3 inch Copper Solids, their Slugger load - & Brenneke loads. Recoil was stout from the 3 inch shells! the other were manageable. Most of my tests were shot at @ 55 yards. Copper solids were tested at 100 yards and were impressive. The pic i included, target was shot at 55 yards - offhand- with Remington's 2 3/4 - 7/8 once slug at @ 1800 fps. - my personal favorite. I also tested some Federal buckshot #1 [[F127] for HD & duty use.
Total cost for this project, 250.00 gun - 50.00 scope - shell sleeve 10.00 - sling 0.00.
