I tried to do a search on this topic but nothing useful came up.

I'm writing a cover letter to Dan Wesson describing problems with one of their revolvers, and I don't know the technical terms for some of the parts of the thing.

Is the gravestone-shaped piece of metal that protrudes from the bottom of the cylinder window called a Cylinder Stop? That's what it does, in addition to leaving a ring around the cylinder. But if that's the wrong term, please correct me!

And the claw that comes out of the breechface and turns the cylinder -- is that the Cylinder Pawl or something else?

Thanks for the help!

Well, it depends on what brand gun. The doohickey that keeps the cylinder lined up with the barrel is a "cylinder stop" to Smith & Wesson, and a "cylinder latch" to Ruger, but it is a "bolt" to Colt and Dan Wesson. (A S&W bolt is a different part altogether.)

Ruger cylinders are rotated by a "pawl" but everybody else seems to call it a "hand."

Huh.

Thanks for the reply. It suddenly occurs to me that I've got an instruction manual with the thing. Think I'll take a peek at it when I get home.
