Hey guys,

A buddy just traded for a S&W military .45 revolver, (model 1917 maybe?).
He says it has excellent blueing, no rusting or pitting.
The grips have some wear, but overall, the gun is like-new.
He says it has several military markings on it.
A Blue Book that is several years old listed the value at $600 - 700.

He doesn't want to sell it, just put it away for his kids.
Anybody have a rough idea what the gun is worth?

Too many variables to give you an accurate guess. What's the serial range, barrel length, what are the military markings, other markings, chambering (.45ACP, .455, .45LC)? Do the serials on the butt, barrel and cylinder match? Excellent finish + grip wear usually = refinish or mismatched gun. A 1917 would have to be pretty outstanding to reach those values. A Brazilian probably wouldn't. Some post-war commercial models would if everything is as represented.

Pictures??

I bought one this week in a private party sale for $350.
I would say it is in excellent condition.
The guy is a friend, so take it for what it is worth. I thought this was a good deal and have seen them for more.
