RIA 1911

Can I buy any 70 series firing pin and spring for the RIA GI models?Granted it has to be for a 45 model.

Thanks JTQ. I have one somewhere in my office that tried to launch into space. I’ll do some research.

A 9mm/.38 Super will fit an SA which came from the factory with an .069” ti pin vs the standard .091”. So long as your 1911 is not a Springfield, is .45 ACP, and is a Series 70 then a typical Series 70 pin will fit but may need some adjustment at the FPS. Typically considered drop in but check protrusion if possible to avoid primer piercing.

Got the first gun baking cerakote. Can’t wait to see how it turns out. Also ordered stainless pin kits from Wilson and Ed brown 3 hole triggers.

I’m envious of your background and training, and all smiles knowing you’re out there in the world jumping in on projects like this. Best of luck and make with the pictures when finished!

Advanced Tactical is Armscor/RIA store front for parts and accessories. have bought quite a few things from them and they always ship quickly and also answer questions pretty quickly too.

Ok ok, I will be the one to ask….why magenta?

its Sangri with pink glitter. Happy wife happy life. She has a robins egg blue glock 380, a Barney purple Taurus 9mm and not a sangria 1911.

I still need to break out the compressor and Cerakote mine Which will be silver with black G10 grips.

I've bought quite a few RIA 1911s over the years, mostly .45s but a 9mm and a .22mag as well. Zero complaints. They're not as cheap as they used to be so OP got a great deal.
I've only owned one GI, which was my 9mm. The rest were TACs or TAC IIs. IMHO the TACs are pretty nice upgrades for what you pay. While the GI is a great blank canvas, I've also seen someone put a lot of money in a bare bones RIA to get it as nice as a TAC out of the box. But any RIA is a good buy.
Not sure if it's still true but all my RIAs were copies of Colt 70 series, and my only Colt 1911 is an 80 series. Lots of parts are not swappable between the two.

had the firing pin launch out, hit my bench light and vanish. Mind you, I reload in a smaller closet, so it’s there somewhere, but I’ll damned if I can find it yet.

Most gun owners know springs are capable of launching small parts into another universe...
It it no longer exists in this universe, it might fall into a black hole in the other universe to reappear here at some later date, looking for it will not help, you just have to wait for it to reappear.;)

Congrats on your RIAs.

We have a 1911 Springfield Armory. My wife loves the 1911. We had an instructor come over to the house to teach her all about the 1911 and then take her to the range. The instructor was retired Army. She used to train small arms for the Army. My wife and her got along great. We invited her to drive up to Fort Drum with us in January, it was fun having her along. Anyhow, I was looking a buying a second and the RIA in on the short list. That way my wife and I can shoot the same type pistol at the same time.

Why not just get another Springfield? Was there something you didn't like about it?

Don’t crucify me but this will be the end result on hers. With glitter added.

this will be my first cerakote glitter job, so we will see how it comes out.

happy wife happy life.

All I can say about the paint job is YUCK but it's your wife's gun. Your last sentence says it all. I bought my wife two diamond bracelets for Christmas and after having her return and exchange each I took her to pick her third so she would be happy the first go-round. I have no idea why women like sparkly things.

After 3 divorces I’ve learned the only thing you should pick for your better half are weeds if she’s a gardener.

I have a 9mm RIA 1911. It's a fun range toy.

When I first bought it, I had nothing but problems with it. It wouldn't feed reliably at all. And halfway through the second magazine, the safety fell off!

What I can say about RIA is they have excellent customer service. I've done warranty on other things in the past, and it's always been a pain. RIA paid for shipping both ways, fixed it good, and now it's a great handgun.

:D Most likely right in your case. My honey and I chose right the first time, 64 years and counting, but I have lost my best shooting buddy to arthritis. Now she just goes along to watch me mostly miss targets.
