I love the width and depth of gun knowledge here at THR, but at the same time it's a little annoying sometimes to see a thread asking for a rifle ID, and knowing that if it's been posted for more than about 15 minutes, it's virtually guaranteed to have been identified several times over.

So, let's see just how good THR really is. I'm deliberately starting with a partial shot - I'll be really, really impressed if someone can ID this rifle from just the first picture. If nobody can, I'll post more and more revealing photos over a couple days' time.

Anyone know what this rifle is?

One of the round-receiver Mosin-Nagant...not enough pictured of the rifle to ID beyond that

Hmmm.

There is no cut in the receiver for the bolt to turn, and what looks to be part of a op-rod. If I had my Jane's guide I might be able to ID it.

It's some kind of gas op, and not a bolt gun. Most certainly not a Mosin.

To be continued......

:scrutiny:

Looks like some kind of straight pull bolt action, but it's not a Steyr, Ross, Schmidt-Rubin, Lee Navy, or any other I can think of...

Tricky.

I think 686S&W is correct. It's some kind of automatic.

The hand in the picture appears to be holding the bolt open, that wouldn't be necessary if it was a manual bolt action.

Nobody has gotten it yet...should I give hints when people get close?

The receiver cut, bolt handle, and the handguard make it look like a Dutch mannlicher to me, but I can't figure out what looks like a straight-pull ction on it.

Looks vaguely like a Delaunay, but that's a Mannlicher/Schlegelmilch sort of bolthead and magazine, making me think it's more likely an Austrian design.

Golly, it doesn't have a stripper clip guide, does it? I wonder what that might mean? :neener:

(FWIW, I doubt I would know what this is if I hadn't been told)

Well, it's definitely not a bolt action. It's definitely either semiauto or full auto. It's likely valuable and/or rare, as the handler is wearing gloves. That's about all I can figure out.
