I picked every single one of them.

Why?

Because the rifle doesn't mean jack crap if the shooter can't make the shot count.

I hunt with .223, .308, 30-30, and 7.62x54R. I figure I'm covered for anything Texas throws at me.

Lots of love for the Mosin. I use my Mosins for hunting all the time. I prefer cheap 200 grain SPs from russia.


And as for the "cheap bullet" theory, well I don't buy into it. I only buy the cheapest bullets availible when I hunt. Right now it's Monarch brand SPs in .308 and .223.

I've killed most of my deer, however, with HP 7.62x39 out of an SKS. It's what I used when I was little.

.223 not enough?? Hogwash! My teenage daughter took her first deer last year with a single clean shot at about 110 yds with a Rem. 700 in .223. Hunting is and has always been about the ability if the hunter to make the shot. When field dressed, the heart was just a lump of goo. 75 gr, nosler did the job. She is hunting with a new Savage in .243 this season. Not because the .223 was not enough gun... but she wants to shoot out to 300+ yds this year. MG

Not to be "that guy" but I vote for a 44 rem mag in a lever. I think those are really good/fun guns.

Was it because you were attempting some of those 400+ yd shot you brag about in one of your previous posts?
If you lost three deer with the .270 Win it was not because the bullet was .277 in diameter.

If you are going to be hunting senderos in South Texas I
would opt for the 7mm Mag in either the Marlin or the Savage
for a bolt gun.

Lever gun, the 308 Marlin Express.

i think it was because i dont shoot through the shoulders i like shooting places that save meat and as i said before the bullets which were 130 power points started to disrupt upon exit i may as well have been shooting fmj
