Right Handed Left Eyed...

I was left eye dominant, right handed. I found that the best solution, for me, was to simply train myself to be right eye dominant. It took a whole lot of time and effort, but in the end, it was worth it. I did it by squinting my left eye a bit, forcing it to unfocus a bit, and then my right eye took over. I still squint my left eye a tiny bit when I shoot (probably just a response from training it) but it isn't enough to unfocus it now, and I shoot with both eyes open.

That's why you train yourself beforehand, so you don't have to. When my left eye squints a little now, it's involuntary, left over from training myself to use my right eye as dominant. It's not something that I'd have to worry about thinking to do.

Since I work in the .....well......hood. I ask my guys if they have ever seen two Pit Bulls fighting. They all say yes. Then I ask if they noticed the dogs closing one eye to fight? Of course not. We are big stupid animals with mammelian brains. During combat stress you will have both eyes open to get the most intelligence to the brain to survive. I have never know anyone who came home alive because they shot a nice little group on a target. Train like you fight and fight like you train. Training time is precious so don't waste it on programs that are non compatable with the hardware God gave you.

Are you suggesting that you cannot train to be right eyed, and then keep that training under stress? I'd have to disagree with you, as I've done it. I incorporate stress training into my training, and I've found that it works just fine. What I do may not work for you. That's fine, do something different. Just don't tell me that it won't work for me, as it does.

No, I am sure you can train to be right eyed. What I am saying that training stress and combat stress are close but different things. And I thought the idea what to explain what works for us and why. It is all about mutual benefit.

GeeketteWithA9mm...

has the same issue. (Right handed, left eyed)

For handguns, she'll do a modified Weaver, and cant the pistol about 45 degrees, which was the "epiphany" that lead to her nailing the bulls

She hardly ever uses rifles, and when she does, she shoots left handed, and hates it.

Info...

Y'all

Lots of great info here. Alot more than I thought I would get. It is interesting to see that more people that I thought have this problem. Silly me, I didn't know if y'all would have figured out how to work with it... :D

Thanks again.

Right handed left eye dominant

I work security at nuke plant and we qualify every year i used to shoot right eye right hand and had low scores to show for it, now i shoot left eye right hand and no adjustments to my stance.

Had a friend that i was teaching to shoot who was right handed left eyed. He works a job where he wears perscription sunglasses for eight hours a day so we had the optomatrist put a darker lens in the left side. After about three weeks we went back to the range and he could shoot right handed right eyed no problem. I'm guessing the darker lens allowed the right eye to take dominence. It's been two years since and the left has not taken back over.

I am right handed, right eye dominant, but over time developed far-sightedness in my right eye, near-sightedness in my left. This means I can see targets well with the right eye, but the sights are a blur.

On the other hand, if I use the left eye, the sights are needle sharp, and the target is a blur.

I simply trained myself to touch my right shoulder with my chin while using the Weaver stance, and bring the gun into alignment with the left eye. With a little practice, the right eye picks up the target, and the brain merges the two images nicely.
