Rimfire Prove it.

Well I thought I'd give this a whirl. Always just grabbed some decent ammo like CCI hp and took of after rabbits or gophers after sighting in. For some reason this thread got me interested in what my little CZ 452 Trainer would do. I use a Sightron 3x9 rimfire scope as I love the fine crosshairs in it. So the first time out I printed about 6 tragets and took a sampling of what I hae on the shelf. Armascor, Blazer, CCI solid and hollow point and even a few CCI Stingers. Well as expected the CCI minimags performed best scoring in the 103-105 range. It got me t thinking what if Istepped up a notch so I went and got a box of Aquila pistol and rifle match and a box of Norma 22match. It did make a difference. Norma was the best with 108 and 110 scores while Aquila scored less on its 2 attemps only because the 1st shot of each box was a flyer into the 5 or 6 ring. WAY out of the center grouping. Now it has me curious and I am going to get a $14 box of Ely and give it a whirl as soon as I am able after surgery on Tuesday. Probably won't get to it until next week tho. I thank every one who made this thread come alive. It is a learning eye opener that a sporting 22 could shoot that well with an average scope plus it is just plain lots of fun.

I gave it a go today with a CZ 452 FS. I didn't use my best ammo, but used what I figured would do ok. I used Wolf Match Target. I used a leather Protektor in the rear and a Harris bipod in the front. I never have thought the gun did all that well off a bipod due to the thin stock where the sling stud is. I believe the gun groups better from a rest or pile of sandbags.

I took a young lady shooting today, she said if I am going to “mess up” her drawing paper she wanted to shoot at it. She shot an even 100 (20/30/25/25) with a Clark custom 10-22, Pride Fowler 3-9 and Winchester dynapoint ammo in breezy (thank goodness it’s 93 in the shade) conditions. Not the best the rifle can do but better than I did when I was 6. Kind of funny I told her to get comfortable in a relaxed position and this is what it turned out to be.

and this was my best score.

That is better than my score.

I do not "suck".

Therefore, nice job!:)

It is going to be in the Nineties again this Sunday. I am going the test if a Hawaiian shirt, shorts and sandals will help my score. If so, I will celebrate with strawberry daquris, if not I will lament...with strawberry daquris!:)

This target's proven harder then it looks.

Agreed. Shooting for score vs shooting for group adds a level IMO.

I’m judging against those guys who shot 120. I actually scored better than I expected, but worse than I hoped. I think I’m addicted now. Wonder if 18x magnification will help? I predict an optics purchase in my near future :)

I know exactly what you mean.;)

A bigger picture helps me aim smaller.

From an internally dirty Konus three by nine, to a crystal clear four by twelve Vortex crossfire two, gained me some points.
Really, though. That Konus,:barf:.

I think correcting for parallax at 50 yards actually would make a difference, but magnification would help more. I bought the rifle used and somehow I had gotten it in my head that the scope (Nikon 3x9 ProStaff) was a dedicated rimfire model when it actually is not.

The rifle is too nice not to have at least a parallax adjustable scope mounted.

Got my targets printed tonight. One gun's back together, will put the 142A together tomorrow. Tuesday is range day !
I'll shoot the 151K with open sights, the 142A with the original M4D Mossberg scope.

For the record, I lemented my shirt not being as lucky as the range was windy. But, I did so with strawberry daquiris!:)

Ninety one degrees and ninety five percent humidity. The mire had a fog bank across it, even with the wind!
One shot with the Rascal dropped far enough to hit the lower right target. Man I like that little rifle though! I have as much fun with it as my son does!

20180809_113105.jpg Got the Mossbergs out this morning.
75, humid and cloudy.
Forgot to put the magazine rod back in the 151K so had to single load it. Only shot it with the 4x scope. Too frustrated to load another 12 in single mode to try the irons.
Shot the 142A with the mossy 4x scope.

94 for the 151K, got excited after bull 1 and 2. Throw 2 shots on 3.

97 for the 142A

Can't believe this thread is dormant. I swapped my scope for a dedicated rimfire model and managed to up my best score to 115 today. There was a little bit of gusty wind that I'm going to blame.

I'm surprised the increase in magnification didn't make a bigger difference. Guess you still have to hold and squeeze correctly.

It is more about the relation of the size of the sights to the target that affects group size.

I am working on getting 2 rifles squared away before trying this, and finding time to hit the range. You all have certainly provided a ton of motivation with your posts and pictures.

I need to try again with the Walmart Savage now that I've done a trigger job and shot a few hundred more rounds through it.

I'm seriously looking at getting my 81 tapped for a scope. That would be my best bet at getting a decent score on this target.

IMG_20180926_114850.jpg I got my 540XR cleaned and took it to the range, forgot my range key. I will have to go back another day. I did shoot it at 40 ft in my garage and it made one tiny hole using Lapua ammo.
