My Co-workers neice and friends were held at gunpoint during a home invasion. Everything was stolen including wallates and purses. My Co-worker was worried and at first thought, it happened at the complex beside mine. It wasn't. I went on to tell my co-worker that this is why everybody should have a gun on them at all times. She gave me this weird look and asked what I meant by that statement. I went on to tell her that if everyone carried leagally, and this sort of thing happened, it would not have gone the way it went. She just kind of stated at me in stunned silence. I know she wanted to say more, but I don't think she wanted to get into a debate with me.

What I find funny is that I used to be like that. The mere mention of guns I would walk in the other direction. Heck, in my previous relationship, I wouldn't allow him to even store a gun in our home. He had to keep it at a friends house. Now, with the help of several THR members, and of course shooting off a couple hundred rounds, I feel completely different about guns. I am starting the process of saving money to purchase my very first carry gun. Wish me luck, and I would also like to take this time to thank those who have changed my mind....You all know who you are ;)

An eye opening incedent.

I changed my view on the AWB after a violent incedent happened to my family in Phildelphia.

Kendra- good for you!

There is nothing quite so rewarding as taking life by the horns, and being the master of your own destiny.

You may find your new-found level of self-confidence and self-assurance affects your life in many other areas than just guns.

If you need any $0.02 opinions from people you've never met on what gun is good for you carry, THR will oblige. Just remenber how much they're worth :)

Thanks! I am seriously thinking about the Springfield 1911 or the S&W. Ever since I have shot it, I can't seem to get out of my system. However, opinions from the board will be greatly appreciated.

Kendra-

The 1911 design is great, especially if it is what you are trained with and know how to handle.

SIG-SAUER is now making a 1911, the SIG GSR they are calling it. Retails for $1k. It's too new to say, but everything else SIG makes is in a leauge of it's own.

I also like all the Kimber 1911s I have shot very very much.

Also to consider is Para's LDA. The LDA stands for Light Double Action, and is basically a 1911 for Glock shooters. It would probally be the 1911 that *I* would carry (as I'm used to Glocks) same 'manual of arms' (means it works the same way in the dark, when I'm paniced. We all panic, that's why we train, so the training can take over :)

That is why my 'bedside table companion" is my Springfield 1911-A1. Even though my particular incident was 23+ years back, I still get the creeps when things go Bump! in the night.

Being duct-taped on the floor and having to witness the gang-rape of a loved one is NOT a happy time.

Plus, with the "3-strikes" laws now in effect, it seems that the Criminal Element has switched to the 'No Breathing Witness Left Behind' way of thinking. Your friends/family are extremely fortunate that they only suffered robbery.

We all buy first aid kits, guns and fire extinguishers hoping we'll never need them.

Find something you like enough where you'll shoot the heck out of it because you LIKE it.

Have fun shopping :)

Artherd- I too am intrigued by the Sig GSR. I can't find anyone outside of the gun mags who has actually shot one. Should you get your hands on one b-4 I do please send me a PM and let me know what you find out. Ms. Pacelli-Since you've seen my Para Ordnance P-14 Ltd. you know I'm a Para proponent. I also have a P-13. The smaller P-13 would likely fit your hand better. Contact me and we can make arrangements to try out the 2 Paras.

Kendra, if it comes up again (and it probably will...) the way to phrase it to NOT freak folks out about how bloodthirsty one seems (non-shooters tend to automatically assume that, for instance, if someone with a gun is in a restaurant that gets robbed, and is carrying a gun, that they'll whip it out and shoot EVERYONE multiple times...) would be to say...

"This is why more people should legally carry firearms. If the bad guys knew that some of their targets would have even a slim possiblity of being able to defend themselves, they'd find another way of getting their money/kicks... Sure, they may still steal, but it'd be something where they'd have a greater guarantee of not running into someone who might defend themselves. You don't see many donut shops being held up, right?"
