I see these locally fairly often. In 45 ACP the Rock Islands seem to work pretty well. Do they work well in 10mm? Will they handle full power 10mm loads for regular practice?

I have one,it's a 5 inch with a full length Pic rail and it's been great so far.I've only put right at 200 rounds of my full power handloads with 180 grain Hornady XTP's through it,but I'm most certain holding up to a lot of shooting won't be a problem.Very accurate pistol also. The full rail might be blasphemy to 1911 purists, but the extra weight out front helps keep the muzzle down a bit.My M&P in 10MM isn't nearly as fun to shoot.

My first 10mm handgun was a Rock Island and it left a bad taste and soured me on ever getting another. The one I got was one of the double stack models, a FS ultra or something to that extent. It was a lemon out of the box. I sent it in to them for repairs and it was still a lemon when I got it back. I don't think they even did anything to it other than drop it on the floor because it had dings and scratches on it when I got it back. I refuse to buy another handgun with their name on it.

A lot of people online speak highly of them though, especially their single stack models, so ymmv.

Yes they are a good platform for 10MM. I had one but didnt like it for a couple of reasons. Wasn’t as accurate as my G20. Only held 8 rounds. Was heavy on the hip. Other than that, I had more to gain with the G20, S&W M&P 2.0 10MM and even the XDM Elite so didn’t feel the need to keep the RIA 1911 10MM.

I have the FS-Tact.2. When I’m hunting, fishing, choring or woods bumming this is what I stick in my slide holster for the last couple of years.
I bought it new. I had failures to fire the first time out. I detail stripped it and noted the firing pin spring felt stiffer, heavier than normal. Subjective, I know. I found a spring in my old/spare parts and installed. Problem solved. It’s a shooter.
I haven’t noted any unusual wear. I installed a neoprene buffer day 1.
I recently bought a Girsan long slide 10mm. I had to do some diagnosing and tweaking to get it to function. I just put another fifty rounds through it yesterday with no issues.
To directly answer the question in your post, get yourself one IF you are comfortable detail stripping and installing replacement parts or doing minor alterations. If you are not you might need a gunsmith or do the return to factory thing and much frustration and aggravation.
I like my RIA 10mm.

Have an 18 shooter (Stock +1 mag extension).

Runs like a champ. All the features are there to turn the trigger into world class. Take-up, pull, etc if you are willing to tune it (or have it tuned).

155gr Barnes HP Tac-XP at 1400 fps will cookie cutter a chunk out of a tire. Bang, flop, car sitting on rim. Ask me how I know, LOL

Given the current hit-n-miss QC rep of RIA’s double-stack 10mm model, plus the apparent difficulty in sourcing extra factory mags, I would do a hard pass for now.

In 10mm double-stack trim anyway, I’d wait and see what EAA’s Witness 2311 gun looks like and how available spare mags are for it.

My RIA Ultra Tac 10mm double stack has been extremely reliable and accurate so far. Bought it used but looked like new.

I will admit that it took me a few years to find mags for my RIA 9mm double stack. However, it took me well over 10 years to acquire mags in 38 Super and 10 mm for my two Witness Matches.

Also, the quality of my RIA’s in 9 and 40 are excellent. If I didn’t know better I would think my 9 was made for a shooting team member.

I have a Taylor's&Co. branded Armscor M1911 (same as RIA) in 10mm.
I’m VERY fond of it!
It’s acurrate, and will handle any sane load. Only some light Federal American Eagle 180gr FMJ has failed to cycle the action due to low power.
But, I didn’t by a 10mm to shoot weak ammo! I bought the AE to generate brass….

Im still trying to hold out for a new Colt Delta Elite.
Stopped by a shop, guy said no ETA.
Did have Dan Wesson Razorback
But I sold my Commander so was kinda wanting another Colt to replace it.
10mm is for deer local and if I bowhunt out west (defensive rig).

My FFL neighbor just bought a RIA 10mm double stack, he brought it over the other day. He never completed the paperwork cause it's going back to RIA.

The safety on right side just flopped around and the one on the left didn't work.
