My New Rock Island 1911 Tactical.

hello!

well guys, i got a new gun. A Rock Island 1911 Tactical. i was looking for my first .45 pistol and i found this 1911 online, so i call them up and they had 1 in stock. I always liked the 1911 but the average price is 800/1200 dollars and can go up to 2500 but this was so afordable that i decide to go ahead and buy it. i wen't with the full size because after handling a compact size at a local shot it didn't feel right in my hand. another thing are the extra features over cheaper models (am sure they are great too) like the abi-safety and skeleton trigger and hammer ;), i would recommend this weapon to anyone who want to start with a entri-level 1911.

now, i would like to hear your opinion about the 1911 and what you think about my new 1911 ;)

The 1911 is my carry piece Les Baer Concept II, now I'm not going to say your sub $500 gun will do everything my $1600 gun will do but Damn! Wait until you shoot it. What a nice gun for the money. Great choice. Get a different mag, mine was junk.

The mags that came with mine were Novak's, just like the ones that came with my S&W 1911 too. My RIA is the "stainless" (aka brushed nickel) and I'm pretty happy with it. Like he said, it won't do 'it' as good as ones costing a lot more, but, it does just fine to 25 yards. After that, I need a rifle anyway.

Learn to shoot the Rock well, and you can put marginal shooters of high-end Kimber, Baer, Springfield, et. al., to shame. It'll do everything you need and then some. FYI, Rock Islands are made on old, series-70 Colt equipment, so you *basically* have a Colt!!!

Had one a couple years ago...foolishly sold it.

If you handload, 185gr. and 200gr. LSWCs will make it a soft-shooting tack driving sunofagun.

Out of curiosity, did the manual say 500-round break-in recommended, or is it only the compacts?

For excellent support & specific conversation @ the Rock Islands, come on over to: http://forum.m1911.org/forumdisplay.php?f=17

Now, get out and shoot it!

The frame looks great and solid, but the slide doesn't look well manufactured. It could be well-made, but I have no experience with RIA 1911's, so I might be wrong.

Sarduy, By the way Congrats on your find. I know you've been looking for awhile. You stated you purchased online. Was it Sarco? Again Congrats!:D

Quoheleth, the manual for the full size says a 500 round break in period too. I agree with BUGUDY, the stock grips felt kinda fat and too smooth for my hands, maybe not for yours though. I bought a really nice set of armscor aftermarket grips for mine that I absolutely love, only $20. I really like mine, I'll like it even better when I'm throught the first 500 rounds and she's smoothed out.

Have fun:)

I love my Tack Tickle Rock. My main carry gun, it's been dead reliable. My step father offered to trade his V10 Champion for it, but I declined (Stainless, porting, bull barrel. Three strikes. . .)

is it just me, or do the ball cuts on the front of the slide look like they curve down toward the muzzle? Maybe that is the style of this gun, but it seems a little of to me. Nice looking overall though, getting new ball cuts, the kind that go more staight back, would be cool anyways.

its the same frame and slide STI uses for the Spartan.
it is a well put together gun and shoots well.

use mine for USPSA single stack competition.

Hostile Amish,
Would you please explain.

eerw, wow: That Rock is beautiful. What finish is that? What grips, what magazine?

When I bought my first RIA, I knew nothing about 1911's, didn't even know that's what they were called. The local Big R Farm and Ranch store had the RIA GI models on sale for $379.99, so I bought one. All I knew was it looked like the old "Army Colt .45's", and I had the money.

Hadn't bought a gun in 20+ years, hadn't fired a handgun in over 10. Very pleasantly surprised with my RIA, now I have three. I've never bought a Tactical, but I bought the Tactical parts from Armscor and made my first GI into a "Tactical clone", except for the ambi safety. Then I had it hot blued, she's my favorite now, but my Colt WWI repro is a tough competitor.

gratz! i have the same one as you, except i swapped out the stock grips for some thinner wood grips. my first 1911, and i couldn't have been happier.

Good choice!

I have the same pistol in the Matte Nickle finish!! Shoots like a gun costing a LOT more. Best 1911 value next to the Spartan STI!

Then I had it hot blued

is there a place that does that kind of job?
