I'm looking for a good quality 1911 45 acp but I don't want to have to spend $800.00 or more. I've narrowed my choices down to possibly a Rock Island or Taurus. Are there any other 1911's I've overlooked or should consider?

What is the top dollar amount that you want to stay under?
I have a Beretta 92FS in like new condition with 2 additional 15 round magazines that I am looking to trade locally for a good quality 1911 and I don't want to have to pay any boot.

PM waterhouse and get a price on an STI Spartan (he's an authorized dealer).

Here's mine (stock) with some VZ gatorback grips. The picture doesn't do it justice, and the groupings are effortlessly small.

Either should be a good 1911 and you might even get a Springfield for that trade if you wish.

para GI expert might work for you. I have the taurus and it has worked great. IF you like the sights. I believe the sti spartan is an armscor slide and frame (like RIA) with some sti trigger parts and bits inside.

both are a good value.. the Taurus is a better gun all around... I would also suggest looking at the American classic. They are a great BASE model 1911 and for $500 or less..

If you are talking under $800...don't rule out a S&W SC/PD. I bought one slightly used for under $650.

I owned the PT1911 and it was a good shooter. It was just on the heavy side compared to my SC. I sold the PT1911 once I bought my SC.

In my experience the Rock Island is a better gun. The Taurus looks cooler with all of the "extras".

I was debating between a colt and a springfield. I got to shoot both and it was suggested that I try the RIA Tactical they had as well. I ended up loving the RIA and bought it.

RIA Tac adds better sights, a beavertail grip safety, an ambi safety and an enlarged ejection port. Not sure if the GI has a FLGR, but the Tac does (not that one is an advantage over the other).

this is like comparing one turd to another

get the para gi expert, outclasses both ria and taurus by far

here's my review of the para gi expert that i posted in another thread:

the feed ramp and barrel throat are highly polished, the extractor is even highly polished.

the muzzle is precision crowned, and the slide is HAND fitted to the frame. there is no play whatsoever in the slide to frame fit it. also has a match grade 4-4.5 lb trigger pull.

it always fires with no problems and shoots one hole groups. tell me of another 1911 out there that has these features and capabilities for $550 (what i paid) for a straight from the factory 1911.

i just want to mention also, i have no clue as to why para does not mention these features on their website, maybe the move to NC has them behind on things?

I carry a Les Baer, but I didn't want to take in the woods and take a chance of scratching it up and banging it around. So I bought a Rock Island Tactical, what a surprise. Now I'm not going to say that this sub $500 gun will out shoot my $1500 gun, but DAMN it is without a doubt one of the finest shooting guns I have ever fired. No experience with Taurus 1911's. And yes I have owned several 1911's Colt NM, Colt Gold Cup, Colt Combat Commander, and GI Springfield NM, Loaded, and Mil Spec Can't even begin to tell the others I have shot. Just my 2 cents keep it or spend it, up to you.
