I've seen two new versions of Romaniam AKs recently that have either the
slant brake or a muzzle nut. Are the muzzle nuts removable/replacable? If
so, I would probably need a US-made brake/flash-hider and has anyone
tried the 30-cal AK-74 style brake?

I am not fond of the 74 style break, but since I need to replace mine w/ a US made one, I too am currious.

I have given thought to the dravonov-style muzzle break.

I found out the hard way that they are all different. I have 2. One of them the nut was screwed on and then tack welded. The other I cut through the weld and still don't have the nut off. A site that I read a while back said that some of the barrels are threaded and some are smooth. So it's a crap shoot. In this version the nut is actually part of the front site. So my question to this is, why in the heck did they integrate the nut and not leave it as a smooth end to the barrel. I have not seen anywhere that says certain serial numbers have the different barrels either. I don't remember the exact site that described the barrel but Linx's site is a fountain of knowledge on these guns.

The 74 style brake doesnt work as well on 7.62x39 as it does with 5.45x39, but it still may be better then a slant brake, I dont know.

The slant brake is whats 'correct' and you do notice a difference even with semi-auto.

During the AWB they were required by law to be welded on. From what I have read, this is no longer required. If it is a threaded barrel then it's really not a big deal if you have a dremel and a cut off wheel. the weld isn't that thick. Just be careful.
