I bought a stainless 3" barrel revolver today, mostly on a whim. It cost me $200 cash. I checked it out, looked like it hadn't been shot much, finish is darn near perfect, lockup is good and tight.

It's marked "Interarms", "made in Brasil", and when you unlatch the cylinder, it says M 89, so that must be the model. I figure this gun needs to shoot regular .38 special and not the +p variety of ammo (although the +p hydrashoks in 129 grain don't seem to be very hot), so I imagine I'd better avoid that.

Any any rate, are these pretty good guns? Seem to be built sorta like S&Ws. I would have liked to have paid a lower price, but the gun seemed pretty nice, and besides, it was a local Sheriff's Dept consignment gun (was taken in a raid), and I have zero issues supporting those guys.

Can anybody tell me anything about these Rossi revolvers? I'm not even sure how old this one is, but it's sure in good shape.

That's nice to know. And I see there is ZERO information or interest in this thread outside of that. Oh well...guess I'll shoot the damn gun tomorrow and see how it does.

You have what I believe is the best of the Rossi guns . The stainless steel models made in Brazil were the cream of the Rossi guns as I see it. I have two guns of this nature including the M720 in 44 Spl, and the M712 in 357 magnum.

They are both very nice guns and the quality in metal and fit is superior to the earlier products in my opinion. The price of $200 is very fair.

Mnrivrat,

Thanks for the info. The gun really does seem to be a quality piece. I think I'll stick with regular .38 special ammo, as I'm not sure it can handle the +p stuff. Not that it is necessary anyway...

My dumb self....was cleaning the gun up a bit, shined a light on the model # area, and discovered that it's a model 88, not a model 89....duh!

The 89 is listed as a .32 S&W Long gun from several sources.:) You caught it. No harm,no foul.

You could use Buffalo Bore standard pressure defense rounds for that revolver.

Or these two rounds.

weregunner,

Caught it just in time, lol. Yeah, I kept reading and kept seeing .32 S&W in connection with that model number, and was getting a little perturbed.

I had already bought some Federal Hydrashok 110 gr rounds....I think they'll fit the bill ok. I don't see a whole lot else in the .38 special flavor that isn't +p. I think the Speer Gold Dot "short barrel" rounds might be standard pressure, but I'm not sure. Time to do some more research...

Federal 110gr. is good! :)

And you're welcome.

Just figured you might want more alternatives.

If not no prob. :)
