About a month ago I bought a Rossi model 92 stainless in .44mag. Loading was a major pain, could not seem to get more than 4-5 cartridges into the rifle, they would bind up in the loading gate area. Also had some feeding issues. So I ordered a stainless magazine follower hoping the cheapo plastic factory follower was to blame, not so much. Did not really make too much of a difference.

It still binds up when feeding and now if I have 4 or so in the mag and cycle the lever it will feed the first just fine, then will eject the first but that is where it stops. It will not no matter now soft, hard or frequent I cycle the lever allow the next cartridge to release from the mag. The only way to get them out is to remove the screw on the front of the mag, pull the spring and dump em. :cuss:

Is this a common issue with these rifles? Am I going to have to send it back to the factory or how does Rossi's warranty work. I bought the gun NIB from Gander, they have a smith on sight is this something Gander would fix? (yes I will make my calls but hoping someone here has direct experience and could offer pointers)

I am not a newb to shooting or levers at all and am capable of doing minor repairs and adjustments myself, would much rather be able to take care of it at home than send back and wait ect, ect.

I had the same issue with a Rossi in .357 until I realized that the lever had to be tight up against the receiver while loading into the gate. If the lever even dropped a minute amount then the rounds were almost impossible to insert. I now pull the hammer back to the half-cock position (which helps lock the lever into the closed position) before loading up the magazine. Not sure if this is the same issue that you're experiencing, but figured it was worth a shot.
Best of luck...

Well the half cock does not help matters. even at full cock the lever will still move. startin to miff me a bit :banghead:

I'm going to have to say no, not common. Both of mine (Both .44 Mags) functioned great out of the box, and have only gotten better over time with use.

He might be able to give you some idea as to what is wrong with it. He specializes in 1892s.

Sounds like the cartridge stop is out of time. It may need a new part, or be clearanced a bit to allow room for a cartridge to pass it. It's possible it has crud or metal chips behind it tho (yes, even a new gun), not letting it move out of the way of the cartridges, a good cleaning may flush it out. It's the curved piece of metal in the front left side of the action below the front end of the bolt. It should move freely with a spring behind it. Look at it with the action open, it should be apparent what it is and if its moving far enough to let a cartridge past it.
