Rubbish, or I’m missing something?

While this “slug” certainly looks mean and the alleged “football sized cavitation” in ballistic gel anppears impressive, the slug itself seems to penetrate like 2”. Am I missing something? Does the alleged cavitation make up for the lack of penetration? Against thick skinned animals and well clothed individuals would there not be even less penetration? Looks like a massive triumph of form over function to me but happy to be wrong…

Could it be that it is intended to cause maximum tissue damage without over penetration? I agree it would not be suitable for larger animals. I would not consider it a do-all ammo for sure.

12 ga Blaser slug for Federal Air Marshall use on planes :uhoh: ?

It just seems bizarre that the manufacturer thinks that video will sell the product….

I've learned to expect that someone will come up with something new in ammo periodically - every now and then a real improvement like Flite Control rounds, etc. - but not often...

Pretty hard to beat basic 2 3/4" 12 ga 00buck rounds or very basic foster slugs in my book... This is for the same reason a basic GI 45 auto round is such a first rate pistol round... deep penetration while doing maximum tissue damage along the way... That 45 is a man stopper, the two shotgun rounds I mentioned are real fight enders as well...

I don’t feel like the 12 gauge slug needs help turning velocity into wound channel size like a 9mm does. It’s a musket ball. Big, wide, and heavy. If a generic slug isn’t enough, speed and expansion aren’t the answer. You can step up to the Brenneke Black Magic slug or, if that’s not enough, I’d suggest a 120mm mortar.

Vietnam cured my hunting urges dead - never hunted once since I returned from my "senior trip"... That said I went into police work a few years after I got out of the service and found myself doing a bit of hunting - every now and then - but for two legged critters... I can say with some confidence that what I wrote about basic 00buck, and foster slugs is on the money for two legged animals...

I haven't hunted since Clinton was in office. But I love to camp and hike and in Montana that means there's always at least some chance that you'll find yourself a rung or two from the top of the food chain. I have no desire to shoot a Grizzly but even less desire to be eaten by one. So no, in my case it's not about hunting but getting deep enough penetration to break stuff that a big bear or moose needs to keep attacking you.

In the video they say 10” of penetration.

The hole in the gelatin looks pretty deep, it possible it went in that far and then backed out?

I consider that kind of stuff to be rubbish, not necessarily because it won't work but because you're paying anywhere from 50% or more for the sales pitch and that's usually some kind of claim that it works better than traditional ammunition and most of the time, I don't buy it, literally.

I guess different is not always better or worse. It's just different! Choose your best option for the need and move on. Choices will change as time passes. Just look at the changes in ammo in the past 100 years! "Get busy living or get busy dying!"

Yes, it's called "bounce-back", though that's an extreme example. Where you see the wound track is where the projectile has traveled.

I don't see this offering me anything my #1 Buck won't provide at the defensive ranges. Surely there's someone out there drooling over these shells.
