I decided today that the CZ .22 project would be put on the back burner a bit, mainly because I couldn't find one of the silly things locally or at the gun show. On a whim I decided to purchase a Ruger 10-22 in the Deluxe Sporter version, or at least that's what I think they call them. I tried checking on the Ruger website but I couldn't find this model listed.

SS Barrel Approx 21.5" long. (Should be about 22" measured from the breechface)
Walnut stock w/o barrel band.
Sling swivels
Recoil Pad

I'll take a pic, but most folks who have been to Walmart have seen this model offered. Something like $214.00. I'm guessing that these may have been a special run that Walmart bought out as I haven't seen these anywhere else.

Anyone have one of these and how do you like them?

very close, the exact setup is that, walmart ordered an exclusive variation of the 10/22 direct from Ruger, most of the "odd ball" variants of common guns you see exclusively in the walmart cases are this way, the "sam walton Rem 1100(or 11-87 never can remember) amoung them, they also used to be the sole source for the 10/22 International in Stainless with the laminated stock.

i thought about one of these (ss deluxe sporter) the last time i went looking for another 10/22, but about that time my father decided to give me the one (a walnut stocked carbine) i learned to shoot with as a kid, so i really had no reason to get a newer one....

I had one that I traded for a CZ-452...

Go to Wal-Mart and buy some of those self-adhesive felt furniture pads. They come in all sizes--get the small ones.

Take the barrelled action out of the stock and put two padsside by side in the barrel channel at the front of the forend.

Now put one in the stock at the very back of the receiver hole, and one on either side of the receiver hole toward the back.

Put it all back together and you're good to go.

I put a Williams peep sight on mine and fixed the trigger. It shot quite well.

Your guess is correct. It's a "Wal-Mart special." I have one and enjoy it. Liked the balance and feel a little better than the standard carbine. Good price, too.

If www.rimfirecentral.com ever comes back on line (out for a day or two lately), you can read some posts on it over there in the 10/22 forum that break down the differences between it and the Deluxe model you see on the Ruger site.
