So Tacsol sells a great barreled receiver for the 22/45, and Volquartsen sells just about any internal part you need, but there doesn't seem to be a readily available grip frame. Most people I know use a donor gun for the Tacsols, but that seems like a bit of a waste, as the receiver is the serialized part.

Has anyone contacted Ruger to buy one, or located some other source?

I'm thinking a nice Tacsol barreled receiver sitting on a frame hacked to take 1911 grips, with a nice set of VZ Grips. I'd just hate to destroy a donor gun to cannibalize what should be an inexpensive part.

Ruger won't sell one. :banghead:
I have read several threads on forums about some enterprising individual that was going to build grip frames with improvements due to the demand ( like your position I presume) or some shortcoming of the original frame.
Never heard of one making it to market.:(

Believe it or not, all Ruger pistols, Mark I through Mark III, use the exact same receiver tube (not counting the loaded chamber indicator). My research into my father's old Mark I revealed that the only defining difference is the specific parts inserted into the upper receiver, as well as changes, with each generation, in the lower. The receiver milling is EXACTLY the same. Given that this design dates to 1945 (as I recall; I know it was the 40's), it is likely that the patent has expired. I thus believe the lower is the main patented part, which is why nobody has created their own yet. They probably ran afoul of Ruger's patents.

A guy named Dominic Notaro makes grips for the 22/45. I like them a lot. His mag base pads are excellent, too.
