Ruger 380 ACP pistols

I like my little Ruger for what it is. Group is 7y offhand with those Gold Dots. Shooting quickly isn’t as pretty but will work in a pinch.

Not my usual carry but SO NICE for urban rucks and taking the kids to the park.

I don’t have a ton of rounds through it but it’s been 100 percent reliable with both FMJ and hollow points. Kind of surprising how well it runs and shoots for its size.

Ruger wanted to make their own Kel Tec mouse gun and chose the bigger caliber because that's what people gravitate towards, then they figured if everyone was doing a P365 style 9mm Ruger could do the same for the LCP and add capacity. The Security 380 was really out of nowhere, a medium frame poly pistol that wasn't blowback? That fits the bill for low recoil.

I would like Ruger to show some support for .32 ACP or, god forbid, the .32 NAA, but I've been holding out hope on that for years and don't expect it will ever happen.

Ruger produces also the LC380 and produced the LCP II. Alot of .380ACP models, as already said.

I bought a Security 380 and have about 600 rounds through it. Trigger feels a bit mushy on take up, but trigger reset is short. It's accurate. Recoil is not "snappy." This little gun benefited from break-in like a 1911. It tended to initially fail to feed (slide pushing next round into chamber, but stops half-way) maybe 8 every 100 rounds. I discovered that this little gun doesn't run dirty very well - it needs cleaning after every session. After 600 rounds it runs ball ammo without a hitch. Ready to try hollow points.

I recently picked up a new LCP gen 2 to compliment my LCP gen 1 bought in 2009. George Kellgren invented it in the P32 and P3AT and Ruger took it full measure to mass production. They really are great at what they do. Flat, safe, reliable. The LCP II and MAX versions moved toward improved (aka lighter/shorter) triggers and they are good as well. Ruger was very smart about getting into the 380 CCW pistol market when it was first booming. What did they sell, like 2MM+ LCPs?

I just picked up the LCP on Friday and ran a 50 rounds of Winchester FNFMJ through it yesterday afternoon… used all 3 mags ( picked up 2 additional mags)
No failures what so ever … actually accurate…
Similar to my old TCP .. but doesn’t hold slide open on last round.. no biggie..
Of the 3 .. the Security 380 is on a plane by itself with shooting… actually a great shooter… I can shoot fast and accurately… really makes me look like I know what I’m doing 🤣
The Max is a great little pistol also … no complaints…
For LCP’s … the FNFMJ is my practice and carry ammo …. The Security 380 I carry UW XTPs
I would not hesitate to recommend any of these 380’s
All have much better triggers than a J Frame ..
And I like the Security 380 trigger… I can’t tell any difference between it and my old Security 9 ..
Im going to put 100rd more rounds in the LCP before I carry it …. The MAX is on my side ( I wear a Scrub top at work) as I peck this out..
The LCP … even though doesn’t look much smaller… it is .. I can confirm that ..
It will be my new work carry .. for sure

Both the LCP snd LCP II have worked well for me in back up and off duty use. Of the two, I prefer the II for its better sights and much better trigger action. :D

Stay safe.

This one by pictures doesn't have the ears on the slide? Probably doesn't matter much if the serrations are crisp. Handsome pistol, I want one :)
Good observation. No.. it does not have ears and the serations are beyond crisp. They polished the sides of the slide and as a result the serations are extremely sharp. I took an emery board and relieved them a little.

That’s interesting to know.
I have two of the standard Maxes and gifted a 3rd one to my son.
They are my EDC, but still have one of the original 2nd Gens. Gave my 1st Gen from 2008 to my granddaughter.
Never had the desire for an LCP II.
