So I’ve had this .22 rifle for 30 years (it was my first gun ever that I received that glorious Christmas long long ago). So last time at the range I had to use a knife to pry the empties out of the chamber. I’m assuming it’s a broken extractor. How difficult is this to repair myself. I completely disassembled the bolt before and it was a pain in the a$&! Any suggestions?

Any chance it needs a good chamber cleaning? Seem to be a .22lr issue sometimes.

I'd try removing and cleaning the extractors and the recesses they mount into well first.

When the recesses get dirty behind the extractors they can't close as far to grab onto the rim.

Be aware the right and left extractors are not the same, one of them is more rounded, for feeding more than extraction

I think Voltquirtson makes a extra sharp 77/22 replacement extractor (that also might fit the mk2 pistol(?))

Scrubbing the chamber well couldn't hurt also.

No, the 77/22 extractors are an entity to themselves, but they may indeed fit the Ruger American and the Ruger precision rifles in .22 rimfire caliber. Now, the Ruger Mark pistol extractors do also work, and are the same as, those used in the 10/22 and Charger.
