I bought mine about 6 months ago and have really enjoyed learning about the platform. I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a well made bargain AR. Check out Youtube for many quality, in depth reviews...
Are we talking the AR556 or the piston-operated SR556?
The SR556 had some serious issues with carrier tilt early on that caused Ruger to redesign the carrier with a rounded tail. This never really addressed the core problem of carrier tilt, but made it less likely for the carrier to damage the lower receiver or buffer tube.

I love my Ruger also. I already have over 20 ARs of various makes and calibers, but when I was shown the Ruger I was truly impressed. I paid right at $660 after tax for a new AR-15 that is solid as a rock and I absolutely love the screw type delta ring over the traditional spring type. In addition, I also liked the ball detent quick detach point on the gas block.
The only thing I changed was the handguard, and I changed it out with a Colt double heat shield type I had lying around, since the Ruger one didn't have the metal shield underneath it.

Had one and it was a good gun but it got traded(upgraded to) for a new Colt 6720
