I have had many quality 9's, Beretta, Glock, CZ, Benelli, etc. I am thinking of a Ruger 95 or 89 series. I am considering a DAO version, or a DA/SA if this is a better choice. I have owned many, many Rugers over the years but never a "9".

What are the recommendations for a DAO only versus a SA/DA version and, for me, which model Ruger has displayed the best accuracy overall. I have to compare my CZ-75 for accuracy because it displays one hole accuracy at 21' coupled with perfect reliablity.

Which Ruger 9 is best?

I have a ruger P95 that i would not take anything for. I own glock 9m.m., berretta 9m.m., and the ruger will keep up with all of them . Im talking about in
accuracy the gun will out shoot the berretta and as far as reliability it has never missed a beat. I have put over 8 thousand rounds through this gun my self and i picked it up used at a pawn shop. A lot of people dont like them for one reason or another but i stand by my rugers , I have even won matches with this gun . hope this helps

I had one of the new ruger p95's with the updated grip, and the light rail. i loved it and put about 600rds through it, but it really didn't fit my shooting style, i use the two thumbs type approach, and my thumb would make the slide stay open. i kept hitting it on the slide release. It pointed real nice and i liked it alot more than the older ones. the three dot combat sights were a plus as well. you'll like it!

Hey Schmeky, I didnt notice your location when i replied to your thread .
I lived in west monroe most of my life still have lots of family there. i was just their last weekend visiting . someone told me they closed the pistol range out by the airport is that true?

They're reliable and simple. That's where my praise ends.

Ruger is not the best when it comes to getting replacement parts, and mine has been a real headache--sloppy trigger (SA/DA), shoots VERY low (everyone seems to hit low with it, none of us know why). Get a DAO, if you're set on one. Makes for a nice carry gun, but I'd never take it to a match.

I would also recommend the DAO, i had the decoker model, DA/SA and would rather had, a DAO model, i am a DAO type guy i guess. i sold the ruger p95 and bought my dads glock 19. to add to the kahr, and the xd, so all my pistols are dao and i like them for some reason.

gaven,

Yes, the shooting range that was near the airport has been closed to the public and is now a police training range only. Sucks.

Tyner-Petrus at the foot of the Louisville Ave. bridge has an indoor shooting range and is really very nice. Otherwise, you have to go out in the boondocks to shoot, which is getting more difficult.

Thanx to all for the responses. I like the looks and size of the P95 and it is made in DAO. I don't shoot matches because I am in a wheelchair, I shoot at an indoor range nowadays.

I owned a P89 for years. Functioned flawlessly, very mild recoil. It shot to POA and was very accurate. Only reason I sold it was to buy a Kahr PM9 for CC. The P89 was a little big for most CC.

I think people shy away from Ruger's because of the low price. I own a P89DC & wouldn't sell or trade it for anything. I am going to buy a P385 this week. Just because they aren't as expensive as other gun's, dont' let the price fool you. They are very reliable & shoot well also.

Back in 1992 my son bought a P 89 and has shot it a ton. I have no idea how many thousands of rounds have gone through it's barrel but, as far as I know he's never had a malfunction. Glamorus? No. Good gun? Absolutely. Essex
