Ruger 9mm Buying Recommendation?

Also got to youtube.com and hit p95. There is a helpfull video on how to take it apart. I found it great beats the manual. I can break it down in about 30 seconds. Easy to clean. Have been reloading and it shoots everything. No jams right out of the box.

I have yet to see an offer on Davidson's that interests me. As to Ruger, they offer NO written warranty is my understanding, but they apparently stand behind their products.

I have a P95 Stainless version that I got the first 6 months they were out. It is one pistol I have never considered getting rid of. A snap to disassemble and put back together, feeds anything and weighs about 27 ounces. Mine is the ten rounder since it was bought during the ban, but have some cheap aftermarket 15 rounders and they function fine. I cannot remember ever having a failure of any kind. Mine is the decock only version and I like it. I have a P94 that is the combination decock/safety and I don't like it as well. Will never get rid of it either. The P95 does not have a moveable link on the barrel so line up for assembly is a snap. Go for it.

I wonder what benefit to getting the 89, though, over your 95, might be. I wonder if it's large and clunky compared to the 95?

All Ruger centerfire autos are pretty "large and clunky." You don't buy a Ruger centerfire auto for style, you buy it because it's reliable and durable.

I'm not a huge fan of their centerfire autos myself because I don't like DA trigger on their guns. That said, everytime I have a student with a Ruger centerfire auto I know there is one gun that will get through the class with no problem.

I have had a P95DC. It has been wonderful. Never a failure to fire and it is accurate. It may not get style points, but mine is accurate and reliable. I like the decock method. Most of all, I like the price. Have put nearly 2K through it without a failure to fire. I have used all sorts of ammo. right now I am going through a case of WOLF Russian. It has been flawless. I second the statements about ease of disassembly and cleaning. My sights are fixed and they seem to work well.

try firing one. You'll like it.

I have one of each. I like the P89 the best & the GF keeps the P95 with her. There is nothing wrong with the Ruger P-series pistols.

At Gandermountain?! OMG! I had no idea they posted ads online! I went and checked it out, and I'm going to call them in the morning to make sure they have it in stock. I hope they do layaway on sale items.

Thank you!

For more Ruger Info there are 2 Rugerforum one is .com the other .net and there is a lot of Ruger knowledge there

Speaking of which, this is a good thread on the topic. Of particular interest, are the comments from COFFEE POT. He's a former Ruger engineer who worked on the P series pistols.

Thanks, I read the thread.

Yesterday I stopped by the local gun shop. They did not even have a P-95 for display or in inventory and do not sell it.

They did have the P-89, I liked it, though it is a bit 'bulky'. It has a decocker/safety-but I did see a used P-94 in 40 that had a 'decocker only' which I really liked! But I am interested in 9mm only, as I already own two 40 cal. guns.

Anyway, from the thread, it appears the P-95 went to military in Iraq (though it is not a 'tank' and not built to military specs-whatever they are?) Apparently 5000 of them-wonder why and in such quantity? And why was it selected and not the P-89?

Whichever feels, looks, and shoots better is the one I will purchase. Of course, this is subjective.

I'll have a chance to rent both soon at my club.

I have a P95DC and a Davidson's P90th and love them both. The ownly regret I have is not buying a stainless P90 because the bluing on mine is starting to wear off.

tedburns, I have a P89 that i got from davidsons through my local dealer, and I love it as much as i loved the first one. shoots right where i aim it. easy to take care of and will stand up to as much as you can reasonably throw at it. i have also shot a p95( my brother in laws) and it was much the same. if you get one of either, you will be happy with it i am sure.

btw, where in socal are you? I am up by oxnard. I know there are a few more from VC on here too.

P89 and P95 are good pistols, with the P95 being a bit lighter with the polymer frame. They used to make a P94 in 9MM, but that's been discontinued. They are not thin, or super light, or pretty, but they generally last a long time and gobble up just about any 9MM ammo. I like the manual safety option on my pistols as well.

I think Ruger 9MM pistol is a good value, and I think Ruger pistols are underrated.

Trebor you should try a Ruger P345 45cal They ain't big and clunky. I wish they would chamber it in other sizes.

There are rumors floating around that Ruger is going to release a new pistol (SR9 is the name I have heard) soon. All just speculation at this point but most seem to think it will be a polymer striker fired compact 9mm.

I have the P89 and had a P95 both run great. Either of them will give you years of service.

And I have now learned the 'decocker only' version of the Rugers...it safely decocks the hammer and lets it fall on a live chambered round, then lever automatically springs upward so that you can shoot DA immediately. Best of all, in my view.

Get the Decock only versions now if you want one... they are being discontinued...
