I'm looking to get a Compact 10/22 for my kiddos.. I was wondering if down the road I wanted to switch out the stock to make it a "full size" rifle, (with a shorter barrel) would that be possible?

Or another way to ask the question: Is the Compact 10/22 the same as a "regular" 10/22 except for the stock and barrel?

Thanks so much.

Yes, you could. A 10/22 is a 10/22 regardless of what variation it starts as. All the receivers and trigger assemblies are the same. Only time any changes become an issue is if the barrel fits in the stocks barrel channel (.920 bbl in a standard sized channel).

And there are lots of take-off stocks out there cheap, because so many guys upgrade to aftermarket stocks when they customize 10-22's.

I wouldn't worry about restocking it. I had one for a long time as my 'survival' gun and the short stock length was never a problem. I got bored with it (it shot every time I pulled the trigger, fed everything I put in the mag except shorts and CB caps, and was just generally reliable as a train) and traded it for a BL22 for the ability to use CB caps and shorts.
