Ruger Hawkeye SS/Laminate .25-06 value?

I have a Hawkeye stainless steel and laminate in .25-06. I bought it unfired NIB and put about 20-30 rounds through it testing different factory ammo. I then realized that it was too big and heavy for the intended user (my daughter) and bought a Savage Axis II in .25-06.

An acquaintance offered me $400 for it. I'd be happy to sell it to him at a fair price. In fact I'd be very happy to sell it to him for up to $100 less than I could get for it in an online sale since I wouldn't have to box it, ship it to an FFL, etc.

What is a fair price for a very low round-count Hawkeye in .25-06?

You could get $850 plus shipping on GB. You are selling a rifle cheap that will continue to go up quite a bit. There are no more stainless 25-06 m77s being made let alone the laminate version.
I absolutely love my M77 25-06 stainless and just put it in an HS Precision stock.
The Ruger M77 25-06 is a bit of a special model, having a special heavier contour and 24" barrel. Someone apparently envisioned a very accurate plains rifle for hunting both medium game and varmints at extended ranges.

That Ruger MK II Syn/Stainless in 25-06 was my pronghorn rifle. 24" heavier contour barrel would get my handloads out there. Damn good rifle.

I’ve never sold a gun online (or even in person.). How do I insure I don’t get ripped off selling online. What is the standard process?

$400 is about half what that rifle is worth. I’d offer it to my buddy for $700 if he’s a really good friend. Actually, I’d hang onto it. As a previous poster mentioned, it’s going to increase in value.

Then he made the offer. The only thing he's guilty of is making an offer he thought I'd be happy with. I told him I needed to think about it and see what it's going for.

that is still cheap. they are going for more nowadays

I would tell him I had decided to keep it.
I sold my M77 7Mag 5 years ago for $700, to a friend. It was blue and walnut. Stainless would be 800-$850 minimum.
