Ruger LCP vs. Kahr CM9 size comparison

I have a Kahr CM9 as a "backup" 9mm for my usual carry of a Glock 26 or my Glock 19. There are times when even the Kahr seems a bit too large to throw in jeans or shorts pocket for that quick doggie walk or milk from the Kwik-E-Mart. There are also times that when I am working around the house and doing physical work that the Glocks and even the Kahr, are just too bulky and cumbersome.

Putting the caliber debate aside, what is the size difference between the Kahr CM9 and the Ruger LCP? Is the LCP that much easier to throw in a pocket?

I don't have a CM9, but the LCP is very pocketable.

Any pants. You'll completely forget it's there. No excuse to not carry.

I used to have a PM9 and got rid of it (there was nothing wrong in how it shot) because it was just too big to pocket-carry. I now have an LCP for that.

I don't have any pics of the PM9 and the LCP together, but I do have pics of the PM9 with a Taurus TCP (which is essentially the same size as an LCP, and which I no longer own):

It's noticeably smaller. For months when I was deciding on my first carry gun I was torn on LCP or CM9. I didn't want to drop below 9mm but I knew deep down that the CM9 would not be as pocketable and not quite the "go-everywhere" gun i wanted for my first CCW. So I went with the LCP. It really can go anywhere.

Also I would venture that even if the LCP dimensions don't show it, the LCP "feels" smaller than the TCP. I handled both before buying and that was just the impression I got.

I have since added a CW9 to the collection for those days I can carry more than the LCP, which happens to be more and more nowadays, but I still love having the LCP around to just slip into the pocket for a quick run to the convenience store.

There is a significant felt difference in the pocket.When I still had my PM9
I carried it IWB,I bought it for pocket carry and did not like it in that role
Decieded if it had to be a IWB I prefer a larger pistol so I sold it. My lcp with lazer is perfect in that role,and to my suprise its been flawless in function.

Kahr P380 is ideal for pocket carry

Very reliable, light weight, easy to conceal in any clothing.

If you want something small get the MPA Protector 380. The smallest 380 in the market. I bought the 1st gen, but the 2nd gen with ported barrel is much easier to shoot. I got it because I hated the LCP. Granted I pocket carry the CM9 because it is a 9mm, but yet is is still comnfortable in my pocket.

The TCP has a trigger that better than othere mini 380s and very much like the kahrs in pull and weight. Also does not seem picky about ammo. For a once in a while use they also have tcp 380FS that retails for 195 . I payed 185 for mine. At 10oz it easy easier to shoot compared to a kt or ruger mini also. I also have a cm9.

I purchased the LCP yesterday. It is smaller than the CM9. It doesn't look it's much smaller, but stuffed in a pocket, I can definitely feel the difference!

I now have to decide if the CM9 is a keeper. It is ok in the pocket, but the LCP will fill that roll better, and if I need to IWB it......I might as well pack obe if my bigger more capable firearms! The cm9 is really an in between size.

I have both (actually a KelTec P3AT), and while the Kahr isn't as pocketable as the LCP, I can still carry it there quite comfortably. I guess I just like having a 9mm. ready to go if I need it over the .380.

I did have a 1 stovepipe during the first 30 rounds while breaking it in, but since then it's been flawless shooting HP Hornady XTP and FMJs.

I back pocket carry a PM9 (where my wallet would be) very comfortably. My only issue is I have to drop down to the 6rnd magazine. Otherwise I carry strong side with the 7rnd mag.

I take it that this statement is not intended to include guns like the Mustang pocket light and its progeny?

As to the MPA protector, it would not be my choice in pocket guns. I'd rather have an LCP. At a certain point guns getting smaller stops being a benefit. It makes the gun harder to use, both shooitng and otherwise running the gun. The MPA is smaller than an LCP is certain dimensions. It is smaller in the dimension that make it harder to use. However, it is not, IMO, really any easier to carry or conceal. In fact the MPA is slightly wider than the LCP. The MPA, is heavier and more expensive than the LCP (although one must say it is very reasonably priced given its construction). It holds one less round. I'm not a fan of the controls. I prefer consistency in magazine release location I want a slide lock in case of a double feed that requires locking the slide to clear. The MPA is a blow back action, which tends to mean more felt recoil. Perhaps this is why they ported it. I am really not a fan of porting on defensive guns. The LCP has crude sights, but at least it has them. I don't know if its still the case but the factory mags were pro mags. The MPA is harder to break down. However, the MPA does have a better trigger than the LCP. I hear some folks trumpet its second strike ability. However, the proper response to a click is an immediate action drill or a reload not to waste time pulling the trigger again. I also find the issue of the trigger bar being able to disconnect if the trigger is pulled without a magazine to be disconcerting. It may not be a huge issue but I still don't really like it. The LCP is easier to disassemble. It also goes through recoil springs really quickly. I'd guess most who buy it wont shoot it that much. However, I'm not crazy about the idea of having the recoil springs be worn out after one or perhaps two decent training sessions.

The MPA feels like a better made gun than the LCP in certain respects, but in terms of function for the intended task of these guns, BUGs or deep concealment guns, I'm not sure that it really is. The MPA is probably a very good value for what it is. However, unless I found I could shoot it notably better than the LCP then for a BUG or deep concealment gun there are options I personally prefer to the MPA.

I agree with most of what you posted except this. The 2 place I shop at primarily (buds and local ffl) the MPA is cheaper than the LCP

I plan on picking up a MPA, but more as a novelty. I have a thing for tiny guns. I doubt it will replace my TCP for pocket carry.

I have owned or have extensive range time with the TCP, LCP, P3AT, and bodyguard. For me the hands down winner if that bunch is the TCP. Less recoil, better trigger, better ergos, more accurate, and best price

Pocket carry is always a subjective subject and differs between what’s hanging in your closet.

It revolves around the size of your pockets and how tight your pants or shorts fit.

Depending on the size of the pockets ….. I can pocket carry a G30 in some of my cargo shorts undetected and yet I can’t in others.

I cc my cm9 kahr way more often than a larger kahr or my tcp.
