Ruger M77/44 bolt insertion

Kanook, the bolt can't be taken apart because the pin can't be pushed out like in the video. Only one side of the pin can be seen through the holes.

I am pretty sure there is something going on with the cross pin that holds the bolt pieces together. It is not seated fully. I can't push it out, nor can i push it in. It doesn't line up completely with holes, and I don't have enough movement in the bolt to get it to line up. I will give Ruger a call on Monday. There's something binding up movement.

Yeah, im betting firing spring tension on the pin is binding up the bolt, best to see what ruger says tho.

It is a bugger to rotate one in that position. I accidentally spun mine the wrong way, the first time I took it apart. There is quite a bit of spring tension on it.

Kanook,
Thanks for that video! I got it cocked. Don't think there is anything wrong with the bolt. I still think that since this is kind of a weird bolt, Ruger ought to give some instructions on how to recock it if they are going to ship it uncocked.

Mine is a M77/357 bolt. It is the same as yours. The vice procedure took me 3 seconds. I doubt your 44 spring is any stiffer. I guess now you know how...

good luck in the future

M
