I just wanted to give a brief range report if you were interested in Ruger accuracy. One I have here is a Ruger M77 R in 6 mm Rem. This rifle was produced in 1988 going by published data. AFAIK it has about 40 rounds down range.
In keeping with the theme of period correctness, I mounted a gloss Vari X III 3.5-10 and set it on 8X.
I fired it today with factory Rem. 100 gr. Core-Lokt ammo to give a true "out of the box" idea of accuracy. This would be akin to someone buying the rifle, a couple boxes of shells and heading out to sight in.
This first group was fired from a cold clean barrel at 220 yds (200m). This is a four shot group measuring 1.37 MOA.
After this, I fired a few rounds at some gongs then let the barrel cool, and adjusted the scope down 1 moa.
Then fired this next group, a 200 yd. (183 meter) five shot group. This group measures 1.36 MOA.
Good consistency and easy minute of whitetail accuracy from this factory 30 year old Ruger, and factory 100 gr. core lokt ammo.
