Ruger M77 w/ tang safety and black rubber butt plate

Has anyone ever seen an Original M77R with tang safety have a black rubber butt plate on it instead of red. I found one used at a local store. It has the factory walnut stock but the butt plate is black. I thought all original M77's had a red butt plate. I already own 2 M77's and both of them have red butt plates. Any info on this would be appreciated.

I have a Mark II Compact in 260 that has a black recoil pad on it.

My Hawkeye Compact has a redish one.

Of course I may be confused by the tang safety part.

I do not recall one such.
Mine is red... and I don't care.

Probably an aftermarket, or factory replacement.

does it say anything on it? if the pad is embossed Ruger then its probably factory. if not then its probably just another grind to fit pad

That should be an aftermarket pad.I am pretty sure all the tang safety Ruger 77s had red pads.I own three and am looking for a red pad to replace a beat up one on a stock I am refinishing.The pads from the Number 1s look the same but are a little too small to be used.
