Ruger Mark II Slabside VS. Browning Buckmark Camper

I hate to put fuel on an old flame but, I plan to get a Buckmark now that I sold my Mark III since I couldn't put it back together again. It was real accurate though.

Ruger, I love John Moses Browning just as much as the next guy but I like the looks of the Ruger better. And the Ruger is probably just as reliable.

The MK II is my personal favorite Ruger. They are fairly easy to assemble - if one is willing to read and follow very basic instructions. http://www.1bad69.com/ruger/field_strip.htm

I've owned a Mark II Target and a Buck Mark Target...
Browning will have a better trigger and be a little easier to field strip, but don't get the Camper model because the plastic sight bases crack.
Rugers feel more durable to me.
Spend a bit more (than on the Camper model) and get a regular Buck Mark. The URX grip models are nice.

I am a little confused by this post. If you have never fired a Mk II, and have never even seen one fired, then how can you say the Browning is superior in every way???

Buy the Mk II you have the added luxury of adding a red dot scope as the pistol comes with a base and rings. Make sure you get the Mk II and NOT the Mk III the Mk II are much easier to assemble and disassemble. I have 2 Mk II and will never ever buy the Mk IIIs because of the various stupid consumer safety nonsense Ruger added to the pistol.

For about $30, your local gunstore could probably have helped you out...which is way cheaper than getting a new gun.
As for which is better, I will say that the MK II Slab Side is my favorite Ruger 22 pistol of their entire line. The weight is nice and balanced, it fires like a dream (not a single jam after putting several thousand rounds through it), easy to mount scopes, and it doesn't feel like a toy (no offense meant toward those who favor the Buckmark).
And, from personal experience, Ruger has excellent customer service. Heck, if you had mailed your gun to them, they probably would have reassembled it or free.
A friend sent his 44 Magnum revolver back to Ruger. The cylinder was a bit off and it was shaving off bits of the bullet each time it cycled (very uncool if you are standing to the side of the person shooting).
He mailed it in, they looked it over, told him it would be about two weeks and they wouldn't charge him. It returned polished, oiled, all worn spots re-blued, all screws tightened, and in a factory box and with a new manual (something he didn't have from the person he'd purchased it from). And all for zero dollars.
Get the Ruger MK II. It is superior to the III in my opinion. You can get a Buckmark later if you still think you want one.

hey Lone Gunman, FlyinBryan is a friend of mine who owns the Browning Buckmark. I went ahead and got the MK II with a NC Star scope on it. I really like it and cant wait to take it to the range, the only thing I dont like is the plastic trigger, Ill be replacing that for sure. I have to move this weekend and its going to drive me crazy that I have this new pistol and 550 rounds of ammo for it and cant go have a little target shooting match AGAINST FlyinBryans little ButtMark. but him getting his Browning is the only reason I was looking for a Buckmark or a MK II in the first place (he would shoot his and laugh and dance around like a little girl) it looked so fun I had to get one too. I was just at the right place at the right time and found this MK II for a steal so I grabbed. but if anyone has any guns they cant put back together Ill be glad to buy em from ya. HA

Trigger assembly and sear and you won't be disappointed. The only drawback is that in order to fine-tune the trigger, you have to completely assemble the receiver and try it, then take it apart, adjust, assemble, try, take apart, etc.
I had to spend about four hours fine-tuning the trigger until I got it perfect. I would estimate I assembled and broke it completely down at least 25 times.
Once I had the fully-adjustible trigger perfectly-set, I used locktite on the threads and miked the clearances and wrote it all down, so I could do it a lot quicker should I have to change something (which I never had to do).
I estimate I have about $1,200 into that gun (Mark II Target Pistol with heavy barrel, all stainless).
I also put a Volquartsen rear site on it and it really likes Ely Pistol Bullets (blue box). The gun is a tack driver. I was shooting red squirrels that were a nuisance and resting the gun on on a deck railing, using one hand and I was hitting the squirrels about 40 yards away! First shot!

Ruger for two reasons:
1.Extensive aftermarket industry including triggers, sears and hammers, not to mention anything else you could want.
2. Ultimate Cliploader- google it, they're awesome.

I have that very MKII with flat grips and a red dot. Love it.
Between those two models I'd takethe slabside.
However, a higher grade buckmark OR the camper with a Tactical Solutions integrated sight/scope rail - now that's a better comparison. I ditched the plastic rail on mine in favor of a TacSol rail - got the 7.25" OD green barrel too.... It's a sweet shooter, but now a bit light for bullseye, which was its intended purpose. It's a GREAT trainer for a 1911 since the grip and controls are all but identical, but with better mag ejection...
Someone said the Ruger "feels better made" - it's all steel, and the Buckmark has an aluminum alloy frame. The Buckmark decends from (or is otherwiserelated to) the High Standard target pistols of yore, which were the guns to beat on the bullseye line, at one time.
Now a good Hamden or E. Hartford Supermatic or Sharpshooter... I'd take one of those please. I mean *another* one of those. The "slide"/bolt is harder to disassemble than the Buckmark, tho, which only matters if the recoil spring needs replacing. Dang, those are great guns, the triggers just *laugh* at the Ruger and Browning.
