I've been looking at getting a new Ruger Mark III, but I really like the looks of the shorter tapered barrel compared to the bull barrel, but would also really like adjustable sights. From what I can tell Ruger doesn't sell their short tapered barrels with adjustable sights. Is it possible to replace the rear fixed sights with the adjustable version? I didn't know if they could be swapped out easily or if they used a different sort of mounting on the frame. I've also looked for aftermarket adjustable replacements for the factory fixed sights, but haven't been able to find any. Do you have any idea of how to get a short tapered barrel with adjustable sights or is it impossible?

I think the Volquartsen sights are nice but from what I understand the front sight post is lower on the short tapered barrels, so the Volquartsen sights won't work because they are designed for the bull barrel. There are some aftermarket adjustable sights designed for the Mark II tapered barrel which are made by LPA which have good reviews at Rimfire Central. Unfortunately MidwayUSA is currently out of stock and not expected in until August (!) http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/default.aspx?productNumber=717074#productTabReviews If anyone knows of another company making adjustable sights for the tapered barreled Rugers, please let me know.
