Purcased a Ruger Mark III, not sure which model

Greetings fellow shooting enthusiasts,

I had been wanting a Ruger Mark III .22lr for years. I finally bought one yesterday at the Hi Caliber show in Houston. I have looked at many variations of this pistol including barrel length, fixed sight vs. adjustable, stainless vs. blued, bull barrel, fluted, tapered, slab side, etc. I went to the Ruger website and cannot find the model I purchased. I need some help. It looks to be a heavy six inch barrel, but tapered, with adjustable rear sight. The stampings say .22 caliber long rifle Mark III Target. The sticker on the box shows Model 10106 Blued. I cannot locate that model on the Ruger website. What did I buy? I have read about a Target Government Model but it's not on the Ruger website. Can anyone assist? Thanks!

Ruger's website normally does not show guns that are no longer in production. Sure it's not a MK II? Regardless, try to post a pic, and in the meantime, look at a place like Gunbroker and see if you can find something that looks like yours.....

Ruger used to make a "Target" model with a heavy (but not bull) tapered barrel and adjustable sights (with a taller front sight to match). I just happened to notice this model is no longer on their website myself earlier today. I bet you got one that was new old stock.

The "standard" models have a thinner tapered barrel and fixed sights, and the bull barrels are...obviously bull barreled with adjustable sights.

And despite all of the various models and configs that Ruger has put out, their 5 digit model/catalog number is what you need to find. Frinstance, our MKIII 512 bull barrel (target?) is really just a #10101.......

Ruger started producing this model in 1951.It was discontinued in 2011.Congrats on a great buy.I can't believe they discontinued this one.

I think it is a Mark II Target.

I think it is a typo on Able's, and it is really a Mk. II.

Did it have the mag release by the trigger guard, or at the bottom, near the magazine well? Did it have a load of dumb safety features, like magazine disconnect and loaded chamber indicator? If so > Mk. III. If not > Mk. II.

I have a Mk. II Target myself, great gun. It was my first gun purchase, back in 1997.

The model #10106 is a MKIII678 with a 6 7/8" barrel. [In semi-autos the chamber length is part of the barrel] I bought one several years ago and it is an excellent shooter. Get rid of the LCD, and Mag disconnect and then get a VQ match trigger & sear. Add a couple extra magazines [Midway on sale[ and a UCL and you'll be good to go.......

There a blast to shoot. I put 100+ rounds through my MKIII 6 7/8" SS Hunter this morning. I have a Mueller Quick shot on mine. What a saver for aging eyes, dot sights. Once you loose the mag disc it's a good gun, Clark MKII Bushing. You turn the MKIII into a MKII with a std mag release button. The LCI does not bother me, it's what I use to tell me it's time to detail clean my gun, (when it starts sticking).

The cleaning is where most have problems due to the way they break down. Only gun I ever own that tells you to hit it with a soft head hammer to remove the barrel/receive from the lower.

Anyway you have a good 22 LR pistol that will last a life time. And a good gun to teach someone to shoot with.

Thanks for the replies and info. Here's a picture, sorry for the low quality. It's clearly stamped Mark III, with loaded chamber indicator. It didn't occur to me that it may be a discontinued item. So what if it is, as long as it'e new...

That's my favorite configuration. Target Model 6 7/8" barrel

His is a Target 6" model with a tapered barrel. The Target 6 7/8" model has a full bull barrel like my Government model.
