I recently purchased a new version stainless Mini 14 .223. It has the ranch rifle style mounting slots. The scope I purchased sits too far forward for proper eye relief and needs to be moved rearward about 2 inches. I have been looking at bases and have seen mixed reviews. I don't want something that is poorly made or shoots lose. Removing the rear sight is not a problem. Can't see it very well due to age anyway! Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks.

Needing to come back that fars kinda surprising. What scope are we talking about?
you can install a rail then mount extension rings to get a scope back father but, i dont think youll get 2"s

I had one of those for a while when i was running a red dot on my mini, i found it well made and very stable.

After extensive research and input from others, I have ordered a rail from GG+G with the intention of mounting it reversed as to provide closer eye relief to my TacVector Sideswipe laser scope. Pictures to follow.

Ruger bases/rings arent reversible for direction, they only mount one direction on the bases. Unless the mounting system specifically states it can be reversed, in which case its doing away with an important part of the base and ring interaction.

Hate to say it, but by the way the TacVector mounts, and only has a 2.4 inch eye relief, you maybe fighting a losing battle:http://www.vectoroptics.com/Vector-Optics-SCOM-20c-Sideswipe-Combo-Product.html
May I suggest going back to the ruger scope rings and a Bushnell Elite 3500 3x9 40mm scope w/ DOA 600 reticle. It is a super nice scope going for a great price right now, and Bushnell has a unbeatable warranty on all their optics: https://www.amazon.com/Bushnell-353940B-Elite-Riflescopes-Matte/dp/B00T9N3BDW

I like your feedback. When all else fails, I will go to the stock Ruger rings with a conventional scope, probably a Leupold. I run them on all my other long guns. Thanks.

Id never discourage anyone from Leupold scopes, though,....there are offset Ruger type rings available to extend forward or rearward the ring from the base to allow use of scopes that don't quite fit right as to eye relief. That may help with the scope you originally mentioned. If ordering any such rings, be sure you get a pair, and the correct height for your scope and head height on the stock.

Not getting the correct scope height, I believe, is one of the primary reasons many think scopes are slow and difficult to use. Leaving the power set too high when expecting a field shot is also on that list.
