I own two Mini 14s and one Mini 30, I love my Minis, great for hunting, good to carry around the property, fun as hell to shoot, and reliable! I like to shoot Hornady and Winchester out of mine, but it shoots alot of ammo with no problem, whats your favorite ammo to shoot out of your minis??

Whatever I can find the cheapest, because she digests every round without a single complaint.

Yesterday with 1991 vintage Radway Green surplus I was easily picking off the 8 oz. Tannerite bottles at 100 yards with the factory open sights. Too bad these Mini-14's are so innacurate isn't it?

I second the what ever is cheapest rule, except for some of the really light hollow points which just seem to explode in the air.

Exposure, I amazed at how many cans, coyotes and jacks have been hit by my "flyers" in this incredibly inaccurate gun ;)

The whole time I owned my 187-series ranch rifle I shot 55-gr .223 Remington/5.56mm NATO exclusively. My rifle was a 1:7 twist. I shot mostly UMC FMJ, Winchester White Box FMJ, and XM193. I just couldn't pony up and buy heavier bullets in good brands of ammo like Black Hills.

Now that I am reloading .223, the rifle has gone on to another owner and I wish I could have first tried different bullet weights thru it.

Mine was ultra reliable and a heckuva lot of fun to shoot! I'd actually like to have it back.

I bought a case of ulyanovsk it was cheap but it shoots pretty good. ive never shot any wolf , ive shot some remington thru it also. never had any trouble with anything really.

My mini 30 has never failed to fire with any ammo. The only problem is it takes a pie plate to cover the group at 50 yards. My Saiga is just as reliable and shoots two-inch at the same distance.

I found factory Federal 55 gr. AE in my mini 14 ranch works the best for me. My SAIGA 223 will outshoot the Ruger - but alas no hi-cap mags. I have resorted to reloading for my mini 14 - 50 grain bullets / BLC-2. I know the twist rate should not be a problem but the 50 's shoot better for me in this rifle. I am coming to believe it is a barrel issue with the Ruger's - too much taper / too thin - which is why the ASI modifications are so successful. The 50 grain bullets give me mostly 2" plus moa @ 100 w/8X scope - occasionally better. Mini 30 - Silver Bear match (when you can find it) shrank the groups even over Lapua. With the mini 30 I have not gone to reloading. At the 50 yard line I with 4.5X scope I can keep them mostly in a 3" target - except for the one in five flyer after the action warms up. If I wanted accuracy in this caliber I would buy a CZ carbine.

salty I have 3-30 rd .223 Saiga mags and don't have a .223 Saiga rifle !
Try Saiga12.com web site for info on mags .

Winchester white box 55-gr for plinking; Federal 40-grain JHP, Hornady 40-gr VMAX, or Remington 55-gr JHP for HD.

I've tried match grade ammo (including Winchester Supreme 69gr JHPBT) and the rifle just isn't accurate enough for it to make a difference, apparently. So I buy what's cheapest.

I've got a Saiga sale right now with Saigas going for literally half of a Mini-14. And they shoot better.

I'm just not a Mini fan.

My mini 14 eats any ammo you feed it. I bedded the stock, retorqued the gas block, and threw on a heavy flash hider. She groups 2" on average, depending on ammo. She is a fun little carbine.

I have a 182-series Mini-14 made around 1981. It's ulra-reliable and so far has functioned fine with SA surplus, American Eagle, Ultramax reloads, XM-193, and Wolf poly-cased JHPs. The only mod I made was to replace the execreble factory front sight with an Eagle HK-style front sight/flash hider combo.

I've had my stainless steel folding stock (factory folder!) Mini-14 for the past 20 years. It's had durn near every kind of surplus 5.56 (oh my, you can't shoot 5.56 in a .223 oh my oh my -- yeah? well RTFM) through it. Israeli, RG, LC, tracers, SS109, even some ugly Guat stuff. That rifle goes bang every time I pull the trigger. Only issue I've ever had with it was with a cheap 40 rnd mag that would fail to feed about halfway through.

I love it when a plan comes together.

I love shooting the 50 gr. UMC JHP ammo in my stainless Mini-14. Very affordable and high quality.

I would take a Mini-14 over a Saiga.

I just picked up some ammo for ~$2.50/box that shot great. I hadn't ever seen it before but it had a brass base and poly (plastic of some sort) upper half with a 55 gr. bullet. Shot great, probably more accurate than the Wolf I normally put through my Mini-14. I am going to go back and see if I can get some more at River City Gun Shop.

Non-corrosive primer?

Could you post the brand?

Silver Bear 62grain SPs or Winchester 55 FMJs. Accurate beyond my wildest dreams. Do use other ammo but those 2 are the 1-2inch at 100 yards record holders. Got the new ranch rifle.

Spencer-

I'll call River City Gun Exchange tomorrow and let you know what kind they were. I am pretty careful about shooting only non-corrosive stuff, so I think they are. I was surprised how much lighter a 20 rounds of that stuff weighed compared to what I usually shoot. I heard from a guy at the range that the company may be stopping commercial production because they got a contract with the army.
