Has anyone had any experience with this pistol? I know that Ruger is not normally looked upon as the best of the best  , but I just need a durable, reliable and economical 9mm to accompany my Glock 19. I hear these things are built like tanks just like Ruger's revolvers. I'm interested in the latest model with the picatinny rail.

I haven't fired the picatinny rail version, but I have no reason to expect it'd be any different to shoot. The P95 is a good gun with outstanding reliability. You could pretty much fire anything through it, even +P+. It won't win any beauty contests (of course, niether will your Glock :neener: ), but with the new textured grip on the rail version the grip feels better, IMO. I strongly considered getting one of these but wound up with my CZ 75. But for what you listed it for (a reliable semi-auto to accompany your Glock 19), it would certainly fit the bill, and you could find a lightly used one for pretty cheap. They're reasonably accurate, too. Just my $.02

I have one since early 06. Good weapon. Reliable. Built to do what is supposed to do. I used different ammo brand and had no problems with it. A good buy for its price. If you want to use for competition, it may not be built for that. For home defense, sure.

Get it you won't regret it.I have the model you're talking about pretty accurate and as reliable as an old ball peen hammer. It could probably be used as ball peen hammer:rolleyes:

The Ruger P95 is a great pistol. Own two. Have had only great service so far. Have you been over to the www.rugerforum.com yet? Just another source of info for the P series owners. Can't add anymore praise than these good folks already have.

An amazingly durable gun, and a good shooter. Not a target gun, but I can put shots on target faster with this gun than any other I've ever shot. As fast as I can pull the trigger, the hits just seem to be there.

Ruger semi auto pistols....

I want to know why Ruger does not list any DA only pistols anymore. Did they not sell? :scrutiny:

I'm sure they had a market in the concealed carry/protection/LE market.

***?????...

Yeah, I wondered the same thing. As a consistent trigger guy, who also doesn't want decockers/safeties etc, I went w/ a dao version of Rugers P89. I guess even then they weren't doing too well, because you'd find them 50 to 60 dollars less than the da/sa at the shows. Ultimately why I sold it, and probably why they don't sell well- the WEIGHT of that trigger. Easily twice as heavy as even the first pull on the da/sa version for some reason. I never measured it, but it had to be over 20 pounds easily. No other complaints functioning wise. 100% reliable for a couple thousand rounds, actually very accurate.

Greg, no experience with that particular ruger, but you mentioned your requirements were: "durable, reliable, economical". Ruger defined imo. To the detriment of weight, concealability, maybe ergonomics- but you already have a g19 for that!

The P95 is a very good pistol. My friend has one I've shot extensively. In fact I was going to buy one but opted for the P97 in .45ACP instead. If I buy another 9MM it will be a P95..

I prefer the decock version. I'm quite used to it on the P90. I have a decock safety on my P85, but I got it used cheap. I hardly ever carry it, so not a real problem. My preference would be a KP95DC, stainless with decocker only. My P90 is a KP90DC. I got nothin' against DAO, especially in a pocket pistol, just like the DA decockers in a larger frame gun. If the trigger is good, excellent on the P90, the transition from DA to SA is hardly noticeable to me. That's one reason I carry it in preference to my P85, the trigger is just so much better. It's got half the capacity, but, much as with the old TV show, 8 is enough.

My P95's trigger was better than the P85, but not up to the P90. It was not hard to shoot well, though. I shot it in some IDPA before getting the P85 and selling it. I have shot the P90 a lot in competition, but I reload the tapered double stack mags a lot more smoothly in games like IDPA. I was always hangin' the danged mag on that P90 costing me time. The double stack magazines go in a lot smoother. My P90 is a more accurate gun, but in IDPA, the P95 and P85 are accurate enough. It's not a bullseye demanding sport where accuracy is concerned.

The Ruger P95 9mm was the first semi-auto that I really was able to shoot a lot. I have only good things to say about it. I had a Browning HP from Belgium that I shot some before that, but the darn thing was just so beautiful I was afraid to use it much for fear of scratching it's fantastic finish. :banghead:

So when I bought the P95DC, I just started shooting it a lot more and loved it.

It was "Fun To Shoot".............;)
