I just purchased one of these for fun practice ($399). I was about to do my pre-shoot cleaning i do with any purchased gun but i remembered reading somewhere about cleaning the action, chamber, and barrel mating surface (and barrel nut threads) on these to make sure there is no trapped grit and everything is meeting nice and clean. I also saw this youtube post ()

I have 2 questions...

1: Is it beneficial to remove the barrel and clean these areas? (the action and chamber will definetly get cleaned)

2: How does this gun adjust headspace? If its like headspacing a savage (threaded barrel and barrel nut) I have no worries, but is it as simple as sliding the barrel in and tightening that barrel nut? (I didnt want to take it apart without knowing for sure)

It might be a good idea. My thought is shoot it first, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I asked on the YouTube video comment section and got a quick answer. It head spaces off the shoulder on the barrel, you simply torque the barrel nut back down.

22 lr , Rimfires headspace on the rim. The face of the barrel stops it.

In the video, the receiver shoulder and the barrel shoulder seem to set the headspace.

A reply from Ruger customer service confirms it...

"The barrel shoulders up to the receiver, which sets the headspace with the bolt. There is an orientation pin in the barrel that fits into the receiver. The firearm is designed so that the consumer can remove and replace the barrel and not worry about the headspace.

Thank you for your interest in Ruger.
