I just bought a new SR9c and it FTF about 12 times in the first 200 rounds :( It looks like very light strikes on the primer, much lighter than the ones that fired. It also seemed to be getting worse the more I shot it.
I suppose it goes back to the factory. Has anyone had this experience with this gun? I hope it is not going to be one of those continual issues because it was very enjoyable to shoot and dead on accurate like no other compact I have ever shot. I really liked this gun and had high hopes for it but now there's no way I can carry it for self defense until it is fixed.

My SR40c has gone back to Ruger twice already due to feeding and ejecting issues. After getting it back this most recent time (just a few days ago) I had this issue, but with only 1 round in about 150. You can see in in the pictures there is an obvious difference in how hard the firing pin struck the primer. If you talk to Ruger let me know what they say about this issue.

I agree with you that these guns are fun to shoot and VERY accurate but I believe there are still some bugs that need to be worked out of these models.

When the round goes off, the primer gets pushed back and jammed against the striker. This is why the indent looks so different. So there's unlikely to be an issue where you're getting radically different primer strikes. It's just that the strikes are marginal for the primers you're using. If you put in a bunch of rounds with fake primers with no compound, the strikes would probably all look like the "light" ones.

Ruger probably has a design flaw in their firing pin block. Does it have a mag disconnect safety? No dryfire without mag warning? These are just issues I had with my P345, and may have since been redesigned for current models.

My shells looked exactly like that. I did notice that I didn't feel a click when it didn't fire the trigger just wouldn't pull. Could something else cause that kind of mark? I was using two different brands of ammo with the same result. Federal 9mm luger fmj and american eagle 9mm fmj both in 100 round bulk pack. If I reloaded the ftf's they seemed to work fine. Maybe it's a triggger issue not a striker issue. Either way it's going back tomorrow.

I have both the 9c and the 40c Ruger puts a lot of gunk in those guns before they ship them, make sure you have cleaned the striker area very good than try it again.

the search feature is your friend...use it. The Ruger SR series come with a lot of grease around the striker. Disassemble your pistol and clean the grease out of the striker channel and that will probably fix your light strike issue. I have a SR9c and have had no FTF as of yet, but I cleaned the pistol before I shot it.

Cleaning out the shipping grease is probably the culprit. I don't know if they're stuffing vaseline in them or axle grease, but they are packed solid in the striker area of new guns. They are probably a lot like the M&P's that need to keep the striker clean (no oil or grease) because it runs in a nylon sleeve. When it gets junked up, it light strikes the primers. (Just a guess from the pics and your description). A good cleaning up inside the striker bay would probably do wonders.

Same here... cleaned the gun thoroughly, lubed it and have had no issues with it in over 400 rounds. It did have one stove-pipe when my daughter was shooting it, but she was limp-wristing badly.

I recently bought a SR9c and haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. Before I do I will remover the striker and clean the striker channel. www.ruger.com has a good video on how to remove the striker and there are other good videos on YouTube on how to do it.

I guess I got lucky. Maybe the shop I bought mine from cleaned it. My first gun was a SR40c and ive put about a 1000 rounds through it now with zero (knock on wood) misfires.

Well I dissassembled mine and it was not really dirty. I tried calling Ruger and after three 45 minute holding patterns I finally got through and they sent me a next day air return label and it is on the way back. I'll let you know how long it takes to return it and the results when it returns.
