Before I add another gun in the .45 mix? Any thoughts fellas? Its new its pretty and I sure want it? LGS 750.00 ish? Stainless upper and researched my best all knight so far. Cant be more then a - four# trigger pull nice wood grips? I was going to go $ more but that's were im at. Then I can get back on my 1000 rnds. of 185g. HAP.s :).

Not sure I understand your question exactly. I purchased my SR1911 a year or so ago at a local Sportsman's Warehouse, tax etc., for right at $700. Bought an arched mainspring housing from Midway, and trimmed the ejector quite a little bit so that it would function correctly.

Check YouTube reviews as most have been excellent on Ruger's 1911.

My Ruger commander is the most accurate gun I own and have never had a glitch of any kind with it.

Thanks fellas. anyone reload for their 45 Ruger in that style? And likes it? I have a few HAP's left to load w/but wont carry. 3.3XDS and a mod. 645 S&W old timey. :)... I want to ad another for the purpose of reloading and light weight carry. I have a CZ,75d compact in 9 that I love but want to move up the carry caliber ladder in .45 . The frame being light weight for long term is what I worry about? Many heavy rounds of reloads threw it? Thanks for all your input Guyz!

I bought one. It was a very nice gun for the money. I decided I had too many 1911's so I sold it along with a few others so I could buy the one I really wanted another Dan Wesson. Valor.:D

I had no issue with it and it was accurate enough, call it combat or service accurate, maybe a tad better,

Backed by excellent Ruger CS who is probably getting better than SW at this time. Springfield Armory also has some nice 1911's and as good customer service.

Rule3 do you regret that you ever sold that gun? Or no loss? And I respect your answer.

John.

I regret selling any gun!:D But to be honest 1911's are not my most favorite platform, Lets just say I had more than one of them so I sold them to get the best I could afford,(got a good price on it) I think the Dan Wesson is right up there with guns that cost twice as much and I certainly can not shoot that well to justify over $2000 on a 1911.

I would have liked to kept it, but why if it wasn't going to be shot?

It's a 70 series gun also so no silly series 80 safety. It has everything you need and nothing you don't. I am a SW fan boy and think the basic Ruger is better than the basic SW 1911.

I think it is a very good gun and you should be very happy with it.

Yeh I sold two guns I would like to replace before I leave this joyfull life. Both S&W's wheel gun's. One in stainless mod. 686 in 8.3/8" Barl. length and a 357 5"/6 never will I ever. Thank you for your help sir.

John. Oh P.S. im likeing that VALOR!:D

I just bought a Ruger SR1911 light weight commander. Range report will be coming when I finally have time to shoot it. I like it so far, trigger is too heavy for my my taste even for a carry gun. Safety is bigger than I like, detent is not a firm as I like either, I like a firm positive click on and off. Machining of the rails is smooth enough, nice snug fit to the frame. Tight lock up. The barrel bushing ID is just a thin ring, I suspect so the barrel can tilt without hand fitting. I suspect this won't hold tolerance as well with use as a properly hand fitted bushing. At any rate Range report to come next week.... I hope.

I have a Ruger SR1911 Commander length (4.25" barrel length) with the steel frame, and I think it is a great gun by any measure to evaluate a 1911, and I would recommend it to anyone interested in one of these.

Yes it is a sweet looking/feeling gun. Shim range report/id be chommpen at the bit! I think I just about ruled in a ruger so far. I wont be using my reloads to carry but will load for and am curious to see the results! Factory or your own either way.

Ruger Lightweight Commander Range Report

Finally got to test out the new SR1911 lightweight. I took my old Randall for comparison, it's my only other 1911, it's the Combat flattop version. Compared to it the Ruger feels like a feather, they couldn't feel any more dissimilar. The Randall with it's heft, wrap around Pachmayr grips and mainspring housing are stark contrast to the thinness and lightness of the Ruger. It is a bit disconcerting however I wanted a very carryable 1911 and I think it's the ticket, just need to get used to it. My gorilla hands (XL gloves are tight), dwarf the grip with its ultra thin panels so I may try the Pachmayr Legend grips. I wish they still made the arched Pachmayr rubber mainspring housing

I started right out with my range loads, Missouri Bullet 200 SWC. I have to say they did not feed well, at least for the first 30 rounds or so. They chambered with a sluggish ka-thunk often not going into battery by 1/8 inch sometimes a 3 point jam. I believe the not going into battery was that the case was bulging right near the grease groove which seemed to be the fulcrum point at the top of the feed ramp. The extractor seemed very tight compared to the Randall. The breech face was also a bit rough.

I continued through the box of 200 SWC (Hytek coated btw), by the end of the box things were running much better. The Hornady 200 XTP were next, it ate the whole box flawlessly. Ejection of brass was energetic with both target loads and the jacketed Hornadys, ejection was from 3:00 to 6:00 with the majority at 5:00, not the consistency of my Randall which would nearly eject into a correctly placed bucket. (paging 1911Tuner, is the extractor to tight?)

I think it will grow on me, I'm just not used to it. I've shot my Randall for 30+ years, owned a Gold Cup in the 70's, shot a friends Govt model, My Dad's .38 super. This one feels different though I'm utterly familiar with 1911's I suspect a grip change will help a lot, hate to cause the Rugers are classy.

After my outing I stoned the breech face, filed a small radius on the extractor claws lead in side just in case it was biting rims. The breech walls had a little shaved brass on the bottom corners so I broke the sharp edge there with a stone. Chambering feels much improved, have yet to test fire though.

BTW 3/4 inch more barrel on the Randall gave 955 fps

Thanks SHIM. Nice $ well spent you shot well in my opinion yep. Thank you John.

Thanks Lauderdale, I think you would be pleased with one. I wish I had time for a more comprehensive review, I wanted to tear it down and shoot close ups of all the parts. Two other items, pretty sure the trigger on mine started out significantly more than 4 pounds. It has dropped however, and cleaned up a bit on it's first outing. The sights on mine seem to hold just about 1" 6:00 which pleases me to no end, that's where my Randall shoots and I hate having to remember what gun shoots where. BTW Dakota1911, nice set.
