A friend of mine is looking at a Ruger Security Six and wondering what the value is. At the end of the serial number it has the letters NIS. Anyone know anything about this series?

By the way, other than knowing by the serial number that it was made in 1986, Ruger has no info on that series. But from what I've read Ruger does'nt have info on a lot of their special runs.

Could be a run for the Naval Investigative Service. I believe they bought some Speed Sixes (round butt) in stainless, 2 3/4" or 3" barrel.

Could also be someone's initials...

Value on a standard piece like that would be around $325. since I have no idea of what the configuration of your gun is or if it is actually a NIS gun, that is a guess at best.

Well, we found out some more about this pistol. It is a 3" Stainless Speed-Six. The dealer called Ruger and they said that it was a military contract for Naval Investigative Services and was accidentally shipped to a dealer in 1995 and that it never should have left the factory. So given these new developments what would the value be?
