I took the muzzle brake off mine and because 90% of the negative reviews on the sfar have been related to the gas regulator I decided to nip that at the bud and I put an AR15 adjustable gas block and rifle gas tube on it. I have no plans to shoot suppressed so I don’t need their 3 position regulator.

On a side note, I’ve heard some people call the SFAR an AR10. It is NOT an AR10. It’s the exact same size and length as an AR15. For example below is an AR15 lower on the SFAR upper. They accommodate the larger magwell by moving the trigger group and grip backwards about a 1/4”..

I haven’t tried swapping any parts other than the gas block and gas tube but it appears to me that the trigger, safety selector, takedown pins, buffer, handguard, barrel nut, gas tube, gas block, grip, charging handle, ejection port cover, mag release, and forward assist are all compatible with standard AR15 parts.

Parts that seam to be proprietary are pretty much the whole BCG, the upper and lower obviously, the bolt release, and the buffer tube which is slightly longer than a regular carbine buffer tube to accompany the longer bolt travel

Here is the SFAR bolt next to an AR15 bolt

I have another one in 308 coming this week that I’m going to be taking apart to rebarrel in 375 raptor after harvesting the barrel extension off the original barrel. Wish me luck!

I have a .308 SFAR. I had to send it back for the updated gas regulator and haven’t had a chance to fire it yet. I like the way it shoots and the weight is about right.
Once I get a chance to shoot it again I can dial in some nice loads for it. As it was it was accurate with .308 service rifle loads from Norma and PMC.
@someguy2800 mentioned parts compatibility with AR-15s. The charging handle is AR-15. I changed that because the stock one was hard to pull with the scope in the way.
I did find the lower receiver is stockier (thicker) than an AR-15. I installed a Magpul BAD lever and couldn’t lock the bolt back with it on there.
I haven’t swapped anything else out on the receivers. I did get rid of the Boomer muzzle brake. Too much noise and concussion. I installed an A2 flash hider for now and I think I will be buying a Krinkov Muzzle Brake Can for it at the end of the month.

Even though I had some trouble with mine I still like it very much.

Hmm. I have an SFAR, barely managed to get one for me and one for my buddy into Wa. state before the "assault rifle" restriction slammed down. Part of H.B. 1240 includes no "assault weapon" parts and threaded barrels. I'll see if Ruger can ship me a barrel being that I already own the gun. If not, maybe I can ship the gun to Ruger for conversion...question is, can they ship me a threaded barrel back that was grandfathered in, and if they can also ship a barrel that was not grandfathered in, but for a gun that was.

I want a 20" 6.5CM barrel though.
