Just got back from the range and my new ( used ) ruger sp101 would not hit the bullseye unless I aimed 2 inchs to the right of it, what am I Doing wrong, this is only my second 357 revolver, I could hit almost anything with my dan wesson modal 15,but it had a 6 inch barrel,,, the ruger has 2inchs more or less,,,my G29 was staying in a 3inch circle at 20 yards...

Bench it and make sure it's not just the sight alignment. Not sure how much experience at shooting you have. Could be improper technique, but not all fixed sight guns come out of the factory with perfect sight alignment. Sometimes they take a tweak or trip back to the factory. Try different loads in it, too. The load can sometimes make that much difference even in windage.

I'm making some assumptions here: the distance was 20 yards when you were shooting the SP 101, the bullseye was 3" in diameter, so the group was hitting 2" left of the bull which would place the center of the group 3 1/2" left from point of aim. You didn't mention what loads you're using. You might try a different weight and see where it's shooting. Other factors could be sunlight directly shineing on the left side of the front sight will tend to move the group in the direction of the light. If you're right handed you might be anticipating the recoil and moving the group that way too.

It may just be that's where the gun is going to shoot too. Run some more ammo through it and see if improves any. If it don't you'll have to decide if you can live with it or invest more in it to correct it. I've had very good luck with the SP's I've owned. Hope it works out for you.

Also have someone else shoot ti to see if it is you or the gun or the ammo. There's a chart online about shooting handguns I'm sure someone will find and post soon

I don't have that experience with revolvers only besides the dan wesson were 22s, been shooting auto since 1982.. so it's proboaley me, what I was shooting was remington 158grain. and then switched to some hornady 125grain same trouble with both..I try next week to bench it and get someone else to shoot it...
Thanks All

olderguns,I had the same problem with my .357,SP101, 2 inch. After 5 differant powders and 5 differalts bullets,I finally found a load that shot to point of aim, without the muzzel flash, and gives me about 1100 FPS.My load for my gun only=140 grain Hornady HP,over 7.8 grains of Unique.this load prints within 1 inch of point of aim in my gun at 10 yards from a rest.biker
