equal condition, equal money, equal barrel length

If everything else is equal, here are the differences between the different "Six" models:

Security Six = square butt, adjustable sights
Service Six = square butt, fixed sights
Speed Six = round butt, fixed sights

Which is best really depends on precisely what you want to do with one. For a shooter, I'd take the Security Six. For carry (especially with a shorter barrel), the Speed Six is a natural. In between those two, the Service Six is a good all-around house or car gun.

Very true.

What a lot of people don't realize is the biggest velocity loss (on average) happens between 2 and 3 inch barrels. The second highest is usually between 3 and 4". My snub (sp101) serves it's purpose and has it's designated calling, but where velocity, muzzle jump, and accuracy is necessary, 4-6" will be a more efficient choice than a snub (my choice for hunting and hiking). Again, a relative scenario requires relative selection.

Got this for $212 at the LGS circa 1980. Ruger was one of the first to make stainless revolvers available for an affordable price back then. The American Rifleman did an article on them around 1977, praising them highly. I knew I had to have one. So when I got back from my military training, not quite 21 (back then you could get away with having a freinds older brother sign for you) I signed up with the LGS on a waiting list, about 6 months later, the dealer called with one in the shop, I was there in minutes. To date, this remains my favorite gun.

The .357 is not really itself when the barrel is shorter than 6" (too much noise and flash, lower velocity) so I chose the Security Six.
