I spotted one of these at a LGS today and was quite impressed. Nice Novak sight with a gold bead up front. Especially liked the grip which had just about enough meat to let me get hold of it. Handled nicely, felt right.

Wondering if anyone at THR has tried one out?

A 3" SP101 was the first handgun I ever bought, and it is a great carry gun. You wouldn't be sorry if you bought one.

The Wiley Clapp edition looks to be the same basic revolver with better sights, and appears to be a good competitor with the S&W 640 Pro, though the S&W comes with night sights.

I think it would be a fine gun. The small sights are the biggest problem with the SP101. This seems to fix that issue. I've wanted to add a gold bead front sight to mine for awhile.

I dunno, I think the name adds a lot to the price. You can get a stock 3" for around $595 or so. If you're in love with that gun, then by all means buy it. But if you're just looking, check the stock model and swap out the stock grips with your own choice of grips, and you may still spend significantly less than the price a Wiley. You can paint the front sight. JMHO.

Aside from the sights, and the grip panels, are there any other changes from a standard SP101?
I know I would love those sights on my 3".

To me the sights are the biggest downfall of the stock SP. Don't get me wrong. The SP is my favorite small frame revolver produced right now, but I'd definitely pay extra for those sights.
