Today I bought a Ruger stainless Speed Six, .357, 3". It's an ex LEO, that came with box and original purchase letter by officer, dated 1980. I don't care about letter so much as the gun. It looks %95 or better. Original wood grips, look new. I put a Tyler T on it. $300. What do you tink?

I think you need to post a picture.

BTW - most probably a 2 3/4" barrel.

Ruger did make a few 3" speed six's
for the US postal service however
they are hard to find.If your's is
a 3" you got a great deal on a
great revolver.

Thanks for responses. It's 2.750" so not so desirable I guess but I think it will replace my S&W 19 2.5". It looked like 3" to my old eyes when I picked it up. It belonged apparently to an Illinois corrections officer.

Well I screwed up. I bought this gun because it looked basically new. When I tested it at the store I did all the usual checks on it. After really messing around with it I find that during really "slow pull" DA the bolt doesn't fall in the notch corresponding to one hole. So essentially one spot on the cylinder star is worn or the hand needs work or replacement. Is a Ruger timing issue easy to fix as a S&W? I may take this gun back and trade it off on a nickel S&W36 that was there. I talked to the guy that owns the store and he'll give me $275 credit. I paid $300 originally. I didn't bring up the timing issue. This Ruger is pretty heavy for carry.

That, sir, is my gun, figuratively speaking. Back in 1980 I got my concealed carry permit, and I immediately purchased the stainless Ruger Speed Six with the three inch barrel, exactly the one in your picture. It was my first handgun. I gave it to my mom about five years ago. She still has it. Nice gun, and good price. Use it well.

PS, I see you are having a problem with yours. Just send it to Ruger, and they will fix it 100%, and probably charge you nothing, or very little.

When I read your initial post I was going joke and say it's "junk" and I'd buy it for $50.00. But as others have said these are great guns, send it to Ruger to have fixed.

Nice buy

Steve

The service grips with the polished Tyler T grip IS the hot hook up! Don't dare switch to rubber! BTW nows the chance to send it to a pistol smith for a smoothing and lightening AND buff off the warnings!:D

Unless I'm mistaken it looks like somebody has modified the locking block. I don't own another Ruger to compare it to.

Presto Change Oh: 1 Ruger turns into 2 j frames. One 36 and one 49. Took the Ruger back, and bought these guys. My crappy pic doesn't do them justice. The 36 looks unfired.
