I have read the Ruger manual that came with my SR1911 and the part about what ammo it will handle....read it over and over, still fuzzy. I have only self defense ammo for it now but sometimes I carry it with me to the ranch. I usually carry .357mag, .44mag and .45 colts with hot loads for hogs cause I am overrun with them. Was wondering if something like Buffalo Bores 255 grain hard cast flat nose would work out of this pistol. I'm worried more about me than the pistol. Any of you 1911 guys shoot this ammo out of their pistol whether is the SR1911 or another model. I know the .45 acp aint known as a hunting round but always seem to read about people carrying them for protection against even bears....better than a rock I guess.

I see no reason to go above 230 gr I am sure you can find a 230gr +P that will handle a hog. Their not that hard to kill as I remember.

I've seen guys say they use that round in their 1911's, but if I were a betting man, I'd bet that bullet would not reliably feed in a 1911. It seems like a round designed for a .45ACP revolver.

I think I'd stick to your high-powered revolver loads for hogs, and not because Buffalo Bore will hurt the SR1911 (which it won't).
